Before applying for any scholarship, students are now required to complete the One Time Registration (OTR) process, which serves as a unique identification number throughout their academic journey on the National Scholarship Portal.
Students applying for Pre-Matric, Post-Matric, Merit-cum-Means, Minority, Disability, and other scholarship schemes should understand the latest registration process, eligibility requirements, documents needed, and Aadhaar authentication guidelines before filling out the application form.
Students can go through the table below to check the NSP scholarship application start and end date. There are various scholarships available on the portal. In the table below, we have mentioned dates specifically for pre and post matric scholarships.
Particulars | Dates |
Pre-Matric application start date (for students with disabilities) | June 1, 2026 |

One Time Registration (OTR) is a unique registration number issued to students on the NSP portal. The OTR remains valid throughout a student's academic career and is mandatory for applying to scholarship schemes available on NSP. Once generated, the OTR can be used to apply to multiple scholarship schemes available on the portal.
Students can generate their OTR using:
Aadhaar Number
Aadhaar Enrollment ID (EID)

Students seeking to apply for any scholarship through the NSP portal must first complete One Time Registration before applying. Mentioned below are the steps to generate OTR:
Visit the official website - scholarships.gov.in.
Click on the One Time Registration (OTR) option.
Register using a valid mobile number.
A reference number will be generated and sent to the registered mobile number.
Download the NSP OTR App and Aadhaar FaceRD application on an Android device.
Complete face authentication using the generated reference number.
After successful authentication, the OTR number will be generated. Save the OTR details for future scholarship applications.
Aadhaar authentication is an important part of the registration process on the NSP portal. Mentioned below are the important factors:
Aadhaar Number has to be mandatorily used for OTR generation.
Students who do not possess Aadhaar may use the Aadhaar Enrollment ID (EID).
Personal information entered during registration should match Aadhaar records.
Aadhaar mismatches may result in authentication failures or delays in application processing.
NSP has provided special provisions for students who have not yet been assigned an Aadhaar number.
Minor students can register using the Aadhaar details of their parent or legal guardian.
Parents or guardians should ensure that the demographic details used during registration match the student's Aadhaar details when Aadhaar is subsequently generated.
A parent or legal guardian can generate up to two OTRs for two minor children.
If any student encounters errors during the registration process, they can take the following steps to ensure a smooth registration process:
Some students may encounter Error 904 while completing face authentication. In such cases, applicants should:
Update the UIDAI Aadhaar FaceRD App from the Google Play Store.
Ensure that the latest version of the application is installed.
Retry the authentication process after updating the application.
NSP has observed that face authentication may fail if Aadhaar biometrics are locked. Before attempting authentication, students, parents, or legal guardians should:
Check biometric status through the mAadhaar App or My Aadhaar Portal.
Ensure that biometric authentication is unlocked.
Proceed with face authentication only after confirming that biometrics are active.
Once the OTR is generated, students can proceed with the scholarship application process. They can apply for various scholarships through the portal. They must check the eligibility criteria before applying. Mentioned below are the steps to apply for scholarships:
Step 1: Log in or sign in to the National Scholarship Portal using the required credentials.
Step 2: Choose the scholarship scheme and select the scholarship scheme for which you are eligible.
Step 3: Fill the application form and provide the required information, including personal details, academic details, institution information, category details, and bank account information.
Step 4: Upload all required documents in the prescribed format.
