    The National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) is offered to 1,00,000 meritorious students every year. Students must check the NMMS eligibility criteria 2026-27 before filling up the application form.

    • Students of Class 8 with a minimum aggregate of 55% marks in previous exam are eligible for NMMS 2026-27.
    • As per the NMMS Eligibility Criteria 2026-27, students of NVS, KVS, Sainik Schools, or private schools are not eligible for this scholarship.

    NMMS Eligibility Criteria 2026-27 - Who is Eligible?

    Students must check the NMMS 2026-27 eligibility criteria carefully before proceeding to fill out the NMMS application form 2026-27. These are the minimum eligibility criteria which are required to decide who is eligible for the NMMS exam.

    Eligibility to Apply for NMMS Exam

    • For most of the states, students shall have a minimum of 55 % of marks or equivalent grade in Class 7 examination to appear in the selection test (relaxable by 5% for SC/ST students).
    • Students who are studying in class 8 as regular students in a Government, Government-aided and local body school in India are eligible for the NMMS scholarship 2026-27.
    • Students whose parental income from all sources is not more than Rs 3,50,000 per annum.
    • The student should be enrolled as a regular student in a government or aided school, which is a must to complete the eligibility for NMMS exam.

    Who is not eligible for the NMMS Scholarship 2026-27?

    • Students studying in any NVS, KVS, Sainik School, or private school are not eligible for NMMS.
    • Those students who are studying in residential schools or other adopted schools under the state government do not fulfil the eligibility criteria for the NMMS exam.

    NMMS Eligibility Criteria for Continuation of Scholarship

    The NMMS scholarship is being offered to selected students for their studies for Classes 9 to 12. In order to continue the scholarship from Classes 9 to 12, students have to fulfil certain NMMS Scholarship eligibility criteria 2026-27, which are as follows.

    • Students have to obtain a minimum of 60% marks in Class 10 only for the continuation of scholarship in the next higher classes.
    • Students who belong to the SC/ST category are required to score a minimum of 55% marks to fulfil the minimum eligibility criteria for NMMS.
    • Students must get a clear promotion from class 9 to class 10 and from class 11 to class 12 on the first attempt.

    NMMS exam pattern 2026-27

    The NMMS 2026-27 exam comprises two papers, the Mental Ability Test (MAT) and the Scholastics Aptitude Test (SAT). Both the NMMS question papers consist of 90 MCQ-based questions each. There is no prescribed syllabus for NMMS, however, students have to complete their syllabus of Class 8 to score well in the examination. Below are some of the important topics for the NMMS exam 2026-27.

    • Mental Ability Test (MAT): The questions will be asked from analogy, classification, numerical series, pattern, perception, hidden figures, etc.
    • Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT): The questions will be asked from physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Political Science, Geography and Economics.

    NMMS Scholarship 2026-27

    The National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme is a centrally sponsored program by the Ministry of Education. The NMMS scholarship is provided to the meritorious students of Class 8. Under this scholarship, Rs 1000 per month is awarded to students every year at Class 9 level, which can be continued up to Class 12. There are a total of 1,00,000 scholarships awarded.

    The NMMS (National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship) examination consists of  180 multiple-choice questions  divided into two papers:

    • Mental Ability Test (MAT):  90 questions
    • Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT):  90 questions

    Each paper is conducted for  90 minutes  , making the total exam duration  3 hours  .
