NMMS Scholarship 2019- Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD), Government of India awards NMMS Scholarship to meritorious students of economically weaker backgrounds. National Means Cum Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMS) is awarded through a common examination for class 8th students. NMMS Exam is conducted on a Saturday in the month of November, every year. Students studying in NVS, KVS, Sainik Schools and private schools are not permitted to apply for NMMS scholarships. Interested students can apply for NMMS 2019 through their respective schools or the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) in the month of September 2019. Students must qualify the classes from class VIII to Class IX for being eligible for starting the NMMS scholarship. Read the article to know all the details related to the NMMS scholarship 2019.

A candidate who qualifies for NMMS 2019 scholarship, fulfilling all the eligibility conditions and clears NMMS scholarship exam gets a scholarship of Rs. 12,000 per annum @ Rs. 1000 per month for Class 9 and continuation/renewal in Class 10 to 12. The scholarship amount is directly transferred into the student’s account by SBI through Public Financial Management System(PFMS). Such students can continue their study in the State Government, Government-aided and Local body schools under NMMS Scheme.

Candidates must first appear and qualify in the NMMS Scholarship exam. To appear for the exam, the student should have scored at least 55% marks or equivalent grade in Class 7 examination with a relaxation of 5% for reserved category.
If the student has qualified in the NMMSS exam, he/she will be selected for the scholarship. However, at the time of selection for the NMMS Scholarship, the student must have scored a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade in the Class 8 examination. (There will be a relaxation of 5% for SC/ST.
The parental income of the candidate applying for the NMMS scholarship 2019 should not be more than Rs.1,50,000 per annum including all sources.
For continuation of scholarship in Class 10 and 12, the scholarship holders must have been promoted from class 9 to Class 10 and Class 11 to Class 12 in the first attempt with 55% of marks (relaxation of 5% for reserved category).
Also, the scholarship holder must score at least 60% marks in Class 10 examination or equivalent for the continuation of scholarship at the higher secondary stage. (There will be a relaxation of 5% for SC/ST).
Candidates must fill the online NMMS 2019 application form to appear for the state level exam.
After qualifying and selection, they will be required to open Joint account with parents in State Bank of India, which has a core banking facility. Candidates may note that there will be no initial deposit/minimum deposit charges for opening an account and once an account is opened, ATM-cum-Debit Cards will be issued.
The state will identify the awardees before handing the list of beneficiaries to SBI for payment of scholarship amount.
The scholarship is generally paid to awardees on a quarterly basis (Rs. 1500/- each quarter) by SBI after getting the list from each state.
Where there are no SBI branches, candidates will be asked to open their account in the public sector banks with the Electronic Clearing System (ECS) facility. SBI will make arrangements to transfer the scholarship on a quarterly basis in the account of awardees.
General framework of the NMMS Scholarship Scheme
Even though it is a central scheme but it is regulated by state and Union Territories (UT).
Each State/UT conducts its own Scholarship exam for NMMS Scheme.
The state level exam consists of two parts- Mental Ability Test (MAT) and Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).
A student must qualify both MAT and SAT with a score of 40% for general category and 32% for reserved category.
The students studying in India are only eligible for the NMMS Scholarship.
Central Government provides 100% funds for the Scheme.
The student of class 9 and 10 applies under Pre-Matric Scholarship category and the student of class 11 and 12 applies under Post-Matric Scholarship category.
For fresh scholarships and renewals, a student must apply as a fresh candidate. For renewals also, there is no need to go to the option of ‘Apply for renewal’.
Only two application can be filled from one mobile for Pre-Matric(Class 9 and Class 10)

The exam consists of two tests:
Mental Ability Test (MAT) – It consists of 90 multiple choice questions that test your reasoning and critical thinking skills. The questions are based on classification, analogy, pattern perception, hidden figures, etc.
Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) – It consists of 90 multiple choice questions that cover academic subjects taught in class 7 and 8 like science, social science, and mathematics.
Students have to prepare their Class 8th syllabus to prepare for the examination. It is also suggested to follow the NCERT Syllabus of Class 8th as the exam authority follows the same for creating the question papers of the NMMS Scholarship 2019 examination. Along with the same, students are also suggested to solve reasoning and mental ability questions from different books and stay updated with the latest happenings.

Students can check the type of questions asked and the difficulty level of the NMMS exam with the help of their question papers. The education department or SCERT of a particular state releases the previous year's question papers for the assistance of the students. Solving NMMS exam question papers will also help in knowing the important topics. Moreover, students can check their performance level by solving the maximum numbers o question papers.
