NMMS Scholarship 2019- National Means Cum Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMS) is awarded through a common examination for class 8th students. MHRD, Government of India awards a total of 100,000 NMMS scholarships every year to meritorious Class 8th students of economically weaker backgrounds. NMMS exam was conducted on November 2 & 3, 17, December 1, 8 and 22, 2019. States/UTs release their separate NMMS Scholarship application form through online or offline mode. Students need to pass the class VIII to Class IX for being eligible to apply for the NMMS scholarship. Students studying in NVS, KVS, Sainik Schools and private schools were not eligible for NMMS scholarships. Interested and eligible students could apply for NMMS scholarship 2019 through their respective schools or the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). Registration through NSP was commenced and students were able to access the forms until October 15, 2019. Each State /UT had a fixed quota of scholarship. NMMS 2019-20 exam will be conducted on different dates at the state-level. Students should track the dates and apply before the last date. Students should note

A candidate who qualifies for NMMS 2019 scholarship, fulfilling all the eligibility conditions and clears NMMS scholarship exam gets a scholarship of Rs. 12,000 per annum @ Rs. 1000 per month for Class 9 and continuation/renewal in Class 10 to 12. The scholarship amount is directly transferred into the student’s account by SBI through Public Financial Management System (PFMS). Such students can continue their study in the State Government, Government-aided and Local body schools under NMMS Scheme.

Candidates must first appear and qualify in the NMMS Scholarship exam. To appear for the exam, the student should have scored at least 55% marks (50% for SC/ST) or equivalent grade in the Class 7 exam.
If the student has qualified in the NMMSS exam, he/she will be selected for the scholarship. However, at the time of selection for the NMMS Scholarship, the student must have scored a minimum of 55% marks (50% for SC/ST) or equivalent grade in the Class 8 exams.
Student's annual parental income should not exceed Rs.1,50,000 including all sources.
For continuation of scholarship in Class 10 and 12, the scholarship holders must have been promoted from class 9 to Class 10 and Class 11 to Class 12 in the first attempt with 55% of marks (relaxation of 5% for reserved category).
Also, the scholarship holder must score at least 60% marks in Class 10 examination or equivalent for the continuation of scholarship at the higher secondary stage. (There will be a relaxation of 5% for SC/ST).
Candidates must fill the online NMMS 2019 application form to appear for the state level exam.
After qualifying and selection, they will be required to open a Joint account with parents in State Bank of India, which has a core banking facility. Candidates may note that there will be no initial deposit/minimum deposit charges for opening an account and once an account is opened, ATM-cum-Debit Cards will be issued.
The state will identify the awardees before handing the list of beneficiaries to SBI for payment of NMMS Scholarship amount.
The scholarship is generally paid to awardees on a quarterly basis (Rs. 1500/- each quarter) by SBI after getting the list from each state.
Where there are no SBI branches, candidates will be asked to open their account in the public sector banks with the Electronic Clearing System (ECS) facility. SBI will make arrangements to transfer the scholarship on a quarterly basis in the account of awardees.
The General framework of the NMMS Scholarship Scheme
Even though it is a central scheme but it is regulated by state and Union Territories (UT).
Each State/UT conducts its own Scholarship exam for NMMS Scheme.
The state-level exam consists of two parts- Mental Ability Test (MAT) and Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).
The students studying in India are only eligible for the NMMS Scholarship.
Central Government provides 100% funds for the Scheme.
The student of class 9 and 10 applies under Pre-Matric Scholarship category and the student of class 11 and 12 applies under the Post-Matric Scholarship category.
For fresh scholarships and renewals, a student must apply as a fresh candidate. For renewals also, there is no need to go to the option of ‘Apply for renewal’.
Only two application can be filled from one mobile for Pre-Matric (Class 9 and Class 10)

The exam consists of two tests:
Mental Ability Test (MAT) – It consists of 100 multiple choice questions that test your reasoning and critical thinking skills. The questions are based on classification, analogy, pattern perception, hidden figures, etc.
Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) – It consists of 100 multiple choice questions that cover academic subjects taught in class 7 and 8 like science, social science, and mathematics.
Students have to prepare their Class 8th syllabus to prepare for the examination. It is also suggested to follow the NCERT syllabus of Class 8th as the exam authority follows the same for creating the question papers of the NMMS Scholarship 2019 examination. Along with the same, students are also suggested to solve reasoning and mental ability questions from different books and stay updated with the latest happenings.
NCERT Class 8th books and State Board books both are equally important to prepare for NMMS Scholarship 2019 exam. Students should cover all the topics f their Class 7th & 8th syllabus from their respective books. NMMS Scholarship is awarded to students having a good IQ level. Hence, students should also read some GK books and watch discovery or other similar channels to improve General Knowledge.
Students can check the type of questions asked and the difficulty level of the NMMS exam with the help of their question papers. The education department or SCERT of a particular state releases the previous year's question papers for the assistance of the students. Solving NMMS exam question papers will also help in knowing the important topics. Moreover, students can check their performance level by solving the maximum numbers o question papers.
