    The National Means-cum Merit Scholarship (NMMS) scholarship scheme was introduced by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) of India. Students who qualify for the NMMS Scholarship exam 2026-27 are awarded Rs 12,000 per year, which is approximately Rs 1,000 per month. Each state conducted its own test for Class 8th students to select them for the NMMS Scholarship. The examination includes two tests, the Mental Ability Test (MAT) and the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).

    NMMS Scholarship 2026-27: Application Form, Eligibility, Exam Pattern, Amount & Dates
    NMMS Scholarship 2026-27

    The students must have a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent marks in the Class 7th examination to appear in the NMMS examination. MAT and SAT both consist of 90 multiple-choice questions and will be of 90 minutes duration. Students who qualify will be included in the NMMS merit list.     NMMS Full Form

    The NMMS exam full form is National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship. MHRD conducts the NMMS scholarship exam 2026-27 for the students of Class 8 in November/December/January. It aims to support students from economically weaker sections of society. The exam covers subjects like Maths, Science and Mental Ability test.

    NMMS Eligibility Criteria 2026-27

    Students who are going to fill out the application form for the NMMS 2026-27 must fulfil the eligibility criteria. The details of the eligibility criteria are mentioned below.

    • Must have passed Class 8th with a minimum score of 55%.

    • The total family income from all sources cannot be more than Rs 3,50,000.

    • Must be an Indian citizen.

    Who is not eligible for the NMMS Scholarship 2026-27?

    • Students who are from NVS, KVS, Sainik Schools, or private schools are not eligible for the NMMS scholarship 2026-27.

    • Those who are enrolled in boarding or residential institutions operated by State Government Institutions are not eligible as well.

    NMMS Scholarship 2026-27 - Eligibility Criteria for Continuation of Scholarship

    • Along with selection, the student must score at least 55% mark (5% relaxation for reserved categories) in the Class 8 examination to get a Scholarship in Class 9.

    • Must pass Class 9 to get a scholarship in Class 10.

    • Must have secured 60% marks in Class 10 (5% relaxation for reserved categories) to get a scholarship in Class 11.

    • Must pass Class 11 to get a scholarship in Class 12.

    NMMS 2026-27 Application Form

    Students can follow the steps mentioned below to complete their application process for the NMMS 2026-27 scholarship. The application forms are available both online and offline.

    • Visit the official website of the National Scholarship Portal at scholarships.gov.in.

    • On the homepage, click on the ‘Apply for Scholarship’ option.

    • If you are a new user, click on the ‘Register yourself’ option.

    • Next, provide your phone number and get OTP.

    • Complete the eKYC by providing documents like the Aadhaar card, passing certificate, etc.

    • Note down your login credentials.

    • Next, log in and complete the NMMS application form.

    • Pay the application fee and download the confirmation receipt.

    OTR Registration and Application Procedure

    Instructions regarding OTR for students who applied to the NSP in AY 2026-27 are as follows:

    A. Instructions for students who have been issued an OTR No. is as follows:

    • Earlier, NSP introduced the face-authentication service, which was optional for students.

    • NSP has issued an OTR No. to students who performed the face authentication, sent via SMS to their registered mobile number.

    • Students with an OTR No. can directly apply for scholarships on the NSP portal.

    • If a student has not received the OTR No. via SMS, they can retrieve it using the "Know your OTR" feature on NSP.

    B. Instruction for students who have received a Reference No. is as follows:

    • NSP has assigned a reference number to students who completed OTP-based eKYC but did not complete face authentication.

    • A student must have been chosen in the merit list by a state-level authority.

    • To obtain the OTR Number, complete face authentication on NSP.

    • Follow these steps to generate the OTR No.:

    a. Download and install Aadhaar Face RD services on your Android device.

    b. Download and install the NSP OTR App from the Google Play Store.

    c. Open the mobile app and select the "eKYC with FaceAuth" option highlighted in red.

    NMMS Scholarship 2026-27 Amount/Prize

    Students who qualify are awarded Rs 12,000 per annum. They get Rs 1000 per month directly into their registered bank account. The NMMS Scholarship is awarded to a total of 1,00,000 students every year.

    NMMS Exam Pattern 2026-27

    Students must get familiar with the NMMS Scholarship exam pattern to prepare well and appear in the examination.

    • The exam will be divided into two parts: the Mental Ability Test (MAT) and the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).
    • MAT includes questions that test reasoning and critical thinking abilities. On the other hand, questions from physics, social science, and mathematics will be asked on the SAT.
    • Each of these papers lasts 90 minutes and is worth 90 marks.

    NMMS Syllabus 2026-27

    The detailed NMMS syllabus is available here for the students. Those who are going to appear in the examination can check the topic-wise details and prepare a strategy to study and score well in the examination. We suggest that the students finish it at least one month before the test.

    • There are questions from class 8 in the NMMS exam. Students must therefore first master the NCERT Class 8 syllabus.
    • Set your sights on subjects like science, social science, and maths to ace the exam.
    • There may also be some questions sourced from the Class 7 curriculum.
    • For the MAT, students should also practice questions from the reasoning section. Any reference book can be used to support their ability to reason.
