About HBCSE Mathematical Olympiad 2019

Students studying in class 8 to 12 can apply for Mathematical Olympiad. Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education conducts Regional Mathematical Olympiad at six stages. All the stages at the national level including two training camp are administered by Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE). A student is willing to participate in these needs to register at all the stages separately after qualifying one. Pre-Regional Mathematical Olympiad 2019 was held on August 11 & August 25, 2019.

  • Online registration for Pre-RMO has been concluded on July 15, 2019. 
  • Applicants can download their PRMO 2019 admit card from August 1, 2019. 
  • PRMO 2019 result was announced on September 9, 2019 for August 11 exam and final result was announced on September 21, 2019.
  • The students who qualify PRMO will have to register for RMO from September 24-30, 2019.
  • RMO exam was conducted on October 6 and 20, 2019. RMO 2019 provisional result has also been declared. 
  • Thereafter, HBCSE will release the list of students who qualify for INMO which will be conducted in the third week of January tentatively. 
  • Students who qualify INMO will be trained at IMO training camp which will be organized by HBCSE in April or May. 
  • Students are given various lectures and training sessions followed by test through which 6 students are selected for pre-departure training camp. 
  • It is conducted 8 to 10 days prior to the departure for IMO.  IMO is the final stage of the mathematical olympiad.

HBCSE Mathematical Olympiad 2019 Eligibility Criteria

PRMO Eligibility Criteria is given below:

  • Candidates born on or after August 1, 2000 and those studying in Class 8, 9, 10, 11 or 12 are eligible to sit for PRMO exam. 
  • Further, the candidates must be Indian citizens.

HBCSE Mathematical Olympiad INMO Eligibility Criteria

The best-performing students from the RMO (around 900) qualify for the third stage – the Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO). The INMO will tentatively held on the third Sunday of January at 28 centres across the country.

The PRMO application process 2019 has begun on June 1, 2019. The last date to apply was July 15, 2019. Students are advised to register with their own school or college but if their institution does not opt to register themselves as a PRMO centre, then students can apply through registered centres. 

  • The application fee is Rs.230/-. 
  • The application fee for students of JNVs and KVs is Rs. 125.

HBCSE Mathematical Olympiad 2019 Preparation Tips

  • For PRMO 2019 preparation, candidates must begin early. They must know the syllabus for the first stage of IMO which consists of syllabus until CBSE class 12. 
  • As preparation for PRMO will have to be done with the class course, candidates must keep an hour aside everyday only for the Olympiad.
  • Solve as many question papers or sample papers as possible. Candidates can find some on the official website.
  • Take appropriate breaks and regular sleep.
  • Eat healthy.
  • The PRMO 2019 is a 3-hour examination with 30 questions. 
  • The answer to each question is either a single digit number or a two digit number and will need to be marked on an OMR sheet. 
  • The question paper of PRMO will be in English and Hindi. 
  • The syllabus of Stage 1 and 2, i.e PRMO and RMO is broadly equivalent to senior secondary level (up to and including Class 12th) of CBSE.

HBCSE Mathematical Olympiad RMO Exam Pattern

  • The second stage exam, the Regional Mathematical Olympiad (RMO) is a 3-hour examination. 
  • The RMO question papers consist of six descriptive questions in English, Hindi and other regional languages
  • Difficulty level of the examination is higher than Pre-RMO.
  • The syllabus of RMO 2019 remains the same as Pre-RMO.
  • HBCSE releases the previous year question papers of PRMO on the official website.
  • Candidates can download them and practise to be aware of exam pattern, types of questions asked in the exam and difficulty level of the exam.
  • These help candidates to analyze their preparation level.
  • These question papers are available to download for the years from 2012 to 2018 along with answer key and solutions.

Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education has released the admit card of PRMO in online mode on August 1, 2019 through the registered centres or from the official website. It is mandatory to carry admit card to the exam hall on exam day. Without it, no candidate will be allowed to enter the exam hall.

Documents Required at Exam

  • Hall Ticket

HBCSE will release the answer key of PRMO a week after the exam in online mode. The answer key will contain the correct answers of all the questions asked in the exam. Candidates can calculate their probable score using the answer key. However, the official answer key will be available after a week but candidates can access the unofficial answer key on the same day, which is released by various renowned coaching institutes. 

  • The PRMO result 2019 for August 11 exam has been announced on September 9, 2019, on mtaexam.com.
  • Final PRMO result and The result for August 25 have also been released on September 21, 2019.
  • The final result for the phase 2 exam will be released by the fourth week of September after considering all the discrepancies reported (if any).
  • Selected students appeared for the second stage which is RMO 2019 held on October 6 and 20. The provisional result for the same has also been declared.
