Many government departments and private organisations offer scholarships to Tamil Nadu students after Class 12. These include national scholarships, such as the Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship (CSSS), for which eligible students can apply through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). Students can also avail of Tamil Nadu state scholarships, such as the Perarignar Anna Memorial Award, by applying through their educational institution or the Tamil Nadu Scholarship System (TNSSP). These TN scholarships for Class 12 onwards are subject to the eligibility criteria of the respective scheme.

These scholarships make a smooth transition from Class 12 into college, professional courses, diplomas, or vocational training. After completing Class 12, students in Tamil Nadu can apply for state and central scholarships to support undergraduate, professional, diploma, and higher education.

Government and different private body organisations provide scholarships to students. Some of the scholarships are mentioned below. These are direct benefit transfer (DBT) schemes aimed at increasing college enrollment by providing monthly financial assistance.
The R.I.M.C. Dehradun Scholarship is offered by the Directorate of Collegiate Education, Government of Tamil Nadu. It is to support students from the state, studying at the Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC), Dehradun. The eligible students receive a scholarship of Rs 4,000 per month. The applications for the scholarship must be submitted offline through the Directorate of Collegiate Education.
The EVR Nagammai Scholarship is offered by the Directorate of Collegiate Education, Government of Tamil Nadu. It is to support girl students pursuing postgraduate degree courses in Arts and Science at recognised colleges in Tamil Nadu. The eligible students receive variable financial assistance under the scheme. The applications must be submitted offline through the Directorate of Collegiate Education.
The Ministry of Education offers the Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship (CSSS). It is available to first-year undergraduate students who have secured at least 60% marks in the Class 12 exam. The scheme is subject to the prescribed community and subject-wise eligibility criteria. The selected students receive Rs 10,000 per year during undergraduate studies and Rs 20,000 per year during postgraduate studies, as per the scheme guidelines. The eligible candidates can apply online through the National Scholarship Portal (www.scholarships.gov.in).
The Scholarship for Differently Abled Students towards Purchase of Books and Notebooks is offered by the Commissionerate for Welfare of Differently Abled, Government of Tamil Nadu. The scheme is available to differently abled students studying in Classes 1 to 8. Under this scholarship, students in Classes 1 to 5 receive Rs 100 per month, while those in Classes 6 to 8 are provided Rs 300 per month to support the purchase of books and notebooks. The eligible students can apply for the scholarship offline through the concerned District Office of Differently Abled Welfare.
It is a scholarship offered by the Department of Backwards Classes and Most Backwards Classes and Minority Welfare, Government of Tamil Nadu.
It is awarded to the top two boys and top two girls from each district of Tamil Nadu.
Thanthai Periyar Memorial Award, Tamil Nadu is for those who have secured the highest marks in the Class 10 examination and are pursuing a Polytechnic diploma.
The scheme is available to students belonging to the Backward Classes (BC), Most Backward Classes (MBC), and Denotified Communities (DNC).
The selected students receive Rs 3,000 per annum for three years.
The eligible candidates can apply for the scholarship through the District Office of Backwards Classes and Minority Welfare.
It is offered by the Department of Backwards Classes and Most Backwards Classes and Minority Welfare, Government of Tamil Nadu.
The scholarship is awarded to the top two boys and top two girls from each district of Tamil Nadu.
Those who have secured the highest marks in the Class 12 examination and are pursuing a professional degree course, such as Medicine, Engineering, Law, or other professional programmes.
The scheme is available to students belonging to the Backward Classes (BC), Most Backward Classes (MBC), and Denotified Communities (DNC).
The selected candidates receive a scholarship of Rs 3,000 per annum for four years or until the normal completion of their course, whichever is earlier.
The eligible students can apply through the District Office of Backwards Classes and Minority Welfare.

Government school-based schemes: For schemes like Pudhumai Penn and Tamil Pudhalvan, the application is initiated through the candidate's college's dedicated scholarship desk on the official State portal (Penkalvi). The college's nodal officer will assist the student with uploading documents.
State Portal: General community and post-matric scholarships are processed through the official Tamil Nadu State Scholarship Portal: tndce.tn.gov.in/Home/scholarship.
National Portal: For central merit-based scholarships (like CSSS), applications are submitted through the national portal at scholarships.gov.in (NSP).

To apply for any of these scholarships, students have the following documents scanned and ready:
Aadhaar card (Active bank account must be Aadhaar-seeded/linked for DBT).
Class 10 and 12 marksheets.
Community certificate (if applying under BC/MBC/SC/ST categories).
Income certificate (issued by a Tahsildar, where applicable).
School transfer certificate (TC) / Bonafide certificate (for verifying that the candidate studied in a government school for Pudhumai Penn or Tamil Pudhalvan).
College bonafide certificate and fee structure.
