The Director of Private Schools, Tamil Nadu, will officially start the Right to Education (RTE) admissions for the academic year 2026-27 in private schools across the state on April 2, 2026. Students can fill out the RTE admission applications for the Tamil Nadu state from April 20 to May 18, 2026 on the official website at tnschools.gov.in. The school education department will start calculating the number of seats available for RTE admission and display them on the notice board by April 7, 2026. The total seats will be calculated based on the entry-level strength in the TN EMIS (Education Management Information System) and published in the respective schools on April 6, 2026. Parents/guardians are advised to check the RTE admission eligibility criteria carefully while proceeding with the application process. They must complete the process within the stipulated time. As per the RTE admission guidelines, 25% of seats are reserved for children from EWS in private schools. Only eligible students can apply for the RTE TN 2026-27 admission. Candidates belonging to the following categories can apply for the Tamil Nadu RTE admission. They will receive free education in private schools under the RTE scheme.
Students from families with an annual income of less than INR 2 lakhs are eligible to apply for the RTE Tamil Nadu admission 2026-27.

The RTE 25% reservation policy scheme plays a vital role in bridging the gap between different sections of society, providing equal and quality educational opportunities to children from underprivileged backgrounds, and promoting inclusive education across the Tamil Nadu state.
Schools will display the number of seats available under the 25% quota.
In case the Tamil Nadu RTE admission application exceeds 25% quota, the government will conduct a random lottery system and officially select random candidates after offering admission to the priority category.
