The RTE Bihar admission application form 2026-27 can be filled out by parents or guardians of children who meet the eligibility conditions laid down under the Right to Education Act.
Children belonging to disadvantaged groups such as SC, ST, OBC, EBC, minority communities, and transgender categories are eligible to apply, provided their annual family income does not exceed INR 1,00,000.
Children from economically weaker sections of all castes can also apply for RTE Bihar admissions if the family’s annual income is below INR 2,00,000. Orphan children are eligible as well, and in such cases, submission of an income certificate is not mandatory.
In addition, the child must be a permanent resident of Bihar and should be seeking admission only in RTE-recognised private schools. As per age criteria, the minimum age for admission is 6 years, calculated as on April 1, 2026. Children born between April 2, 2018, and April 1, 2020, are eligible to apply for RTE Bihar admissions 2026-27.
Under the RTE Bihar admissions, 25 per cent of seats in eligible private schools are reserved for children admitted under the Right to Education Act. The number of seats available for RTE admission is decided by each school and may vary from one institution to another.
The allocation of seats is carried out through an online, computer-based lottery system to ensure transparency and fairness.
During the allocation process, priority is given based on the distance between the child’s residence and the selected school.
Children living within a distance of 0 to 1 kilometre from the school are given first preference, followed by those residing within 1 to 3 kilometres, and then applicants living between 3 and 6 kilometres.
Seat allotment is finalised only after verification by the concerned school and education authorities.
Applicants must upload the following documents during the online application process:
Birth Certificate / Anganwadi Certificate
Aadhaar Card of Parent/Guardian
A passport-size photograph of the child
Income Certificate (if applicable)
Caste Certificate (if applicable)
Residence Certificate
Mobile Number
Undertaking Certificate (for orphan children)
