The postponement and cancellation of the exams are mainly due to the ongoing conflict and rising tensions in the Middle East. The escalating hostilities involving countries such as Iran and Israel have created an unstable situation in the region. For the safety of students and school staff, CBSE decided to postpone the examinations at the affected centres. In addition, the regional tensions have led to airspace closures, travel disruptions, and transportation uncertainties, making it difficult to conduct the exams smoothly.
The cancellation of the examination applies to CBSE schools in the following countries:
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has established examination centres in 26 countries outside of India. These international hubs cater to thousands of candidates, with a significant concentration in the Middle East (including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, and Bahrain), as well as Nigeria and Uganda. However, the notice is released for war-disturbed countries. Read more below
Safety First: The board's Controller of Examinations, Dr Sanyam Bhardwaj, stated that the decision was taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students and staff amidst regional tensions.
Fake News Alert: The board has warned against a fake circular circulating on social media claiming that all exams in the Gulf have been cancelled. Always verify information through the official website, cbse.gov.in.
Regional Specificity: This postponement only applies to the seven Middle Eastern countries mentioned above. CBSE Class 10 exams and Class 12 CBSE exams in India and other international centres are proceeding as per the original CBSE date sheet.
Note to Students: Many schools in the UAE and Qatar have temporarily shifted to remote learning. However, this does not change the status of CBSE board exams; only official CBSE circulars carry that authority.
