The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) provides a choice for the students to choose standard and basic Mathematics in Class 10. The standard Mathematics (041) is for the students who are going to opt for the subject in future class which is 11th and 12th standard. Basic Mathematics (241) is for the students who do not wish to pursue Mathematics in their higher students. If the students want to drop Maths in the Class 11, they can pick the CBSE Class 10th basic Mathematics.

As per the official notice shared by the CBSE, the students who have appeared in the basic Mathematics in Class 10th are only allowed to get Applied Mathematics in Class 11. Earlier, the board provided relaxation and the students who appeared in the basic Maths paper were allowed to choose the Mathematics subject in Class 11 due to the pandemic.
However, from the 2025-26 session onwards, the students with standard Maths in Class 10th will be able to choose Maths in Class 11. Those with basic Maths in Class 10 will have to satisfy their principal and school authorities that they have the aptitude and ability to pursue Mathematics in Class 11.
