What is TMA in NIOS 10th, 12th?

Tutor-Marked Assignments are written tasks designed to develop a habit of regular study. They include different types of questions, such as short answers, long answers, and project-based, covering the syllabus. Students submit TMAs before their board exams, and tutors mark them, providing feedback. TMAs carry 20% weightage of the final theory marks, with the remaining 80% coming from the board exam

TMAs can be submitted online through the NIOS student portal or offline at the respective accredited institution (AI) or NIOS study centre.

NIOS TMA Submission Date

For Block II, learners are required to upload their Tutor-Marked Assignments (TMAs) without a late fee by August 31st. For those who miss this initial deadline, a late submission option is available with a fee of Rs 1500/- per subject. This extended deadline for late submissions is set for one month after the declaration of the NIOS results for the October session.

More About NIOS TMA

Tutor-marked assignments (TMAs) play an important role in improving overall theory performance, contributing up to 20% of the final theory marks, as set by NIOS. Each year, the board sends out a TMA booklet along with 10th NIOS study materials and 12th NIOS study materials, featuring sample assignments for all registered subjects. Students are expected to complete these handwritten assignments, referring to their textbooks whenever necessary, and it is recommended to do so during the Personal Contact Programme (PCP) at their designated Academic Institution (AI).

A standard TMA consists of six questions, offering internal choices. The mark distribution is designed as follows:

  • Questions 1-3: 2 marks each

  • Questions 4-5: 4 marks each

  • Question 6: A project report worth 6 marks
This structure totals 20 marks per assignment
