NIOS Registration 2026-27 - Important Dates

Stream-wise NIOS Registration 2026-27

The NIOS accepts registrations in four streams: Stream 1, 2, 3, and 4. Students are allowed to fill out the NIOS registration form for any stream according to their choice and eligibility. Here are the details for all the streams:

NIOS Stream 1 Registration

• This stream of NIOS registration 2026-27 is open for all learners, secondary and senior secondary courses.

• Stream 1 students are allotted an accredited institute (study centre) to guide them in studying.

NIOS Stream 2 Registration

• NIOS registration in this stream is held for students who have already passed the Class 10 exams from a recognised board but wish to appear for exams of 1 to 4 subjects to upgrade their qualifications.

• Such students can upload their failed Marksheet/NIOS hall ticket along with other relevant documents.

NIOS Stream 3 Registration

• NIOS registration in this stream is open for students throughout the year.

• Those who have passed the secondary exam from a recognised board, but wish to appear for one subject or up to 4 subjects to enhance their score, can fill out the Stream 3 NIOS Registration form for the on-demand examination.

• Students who are not able to clear or appear in the NIOS 10th class Public Examination are also eligible to apply for NIOS 2026-27 registration.

• The students can apply for the following subjects only: Business Studies (215), Data Entry Operations (229), Economics (214), English (202), Home Science (216), Hindi (201), Indian Culture & Heritage (223), Mathematics (211), Painting (225), Psychology (222), Sanskrit (209), Science & Technology (212) and Social Science (213).

NIOS Stream 4 Registration

• Under this stream, NIOS registrations are going on for class 12th students

• Students who have passed the senior secondary exam from a recognised board, but wish to appear for one subject or up to 4 subjects to enhance their score, can apply for stream 4 through the on-demand examination system.

• Students who were unable to clear or did not appear in the NIOS Class 12 public examination can also apply for this stream, NIOS ODES registration.

NIOS On-Demand Registration 2026-27

NIOS on-demand registration is done in online mode, and the registration link is made available on the official website nios.ac.in. The on-demand exams are to be scheduled to be conducted at NIOS HQ, NIOS regional centres, and Kendriya Vidyalayas from the 3rd week of March.

NIOS Registration 2026-27 Eligibility Criteria

Students are requested to check the eligibility criteria before filling the NIOS Registration form 2026-27. If a student is found ineligible, his/her registration for NIOS can be cancelled at any stage. Read ahead to know the complete 10th, 12th eligibility criteria for NIOS registration 2026-27.

NIOS 10th Registration Eligibility Criteria

• A student must be 14 years of age as of January 31, 2026.

• A student who has passed Class 8 and has valid proof of age is eligible to apply.

• Students can also apply for NIOS Class 10 registration if he/she gives a self-attested certificate that "he/she has studied enough to be able to pursue a secondary course."

• One who has studied in secondary school can also apply in this category to improve the score or to complete the course.

NIOS Class 12 Registration Eligibility Criteria

• The applicant must be 15 years of age as of January 31, 2026.

• Students must have passed the secondary exam from a recognised board.

• A student who has studied in senior secondary school can also apply in this category for improving the score or to complete the course.

• Students who fulfil the above-mentioned conditions are eligible for NIOS 12th registration.

How to do NIOS Registration 2026-27 for 10th and 12th?

The NIOS online admission can be done through the official website. Students can follow the steps given below to fill the NIOS online registration form 2026-27.

• Go to the official website, sdmis.nios.ac.in
• On the homepage, click on the ‘Admission’ tab and then click on the ‘Academic’ option.
• Choose the scheme of admission.
• Now, choose the state/UT and identity type.
• After this, students will be redirected to a new page wherein they have to enter their basic details, such as name, father’s name, mother’s name, date of birth, gender, Aadhaar number, mobile number, and email ID. Click on the generate OTP button and verify contact details, then submit the NIOS registration form 2026-27.
• Then, enter optional details as asked and proceed to choose subjects and study centre preferences.
• Now students have to fill in their addresses and other information and upload the documents, such as social class proof, birth certificate, correspondence address proof, photo, signature and previous qualification certificate.
• After filling in all the details in the NIOS exam form, students have to proceed with payment. Applicants can make the payment through credit card, debit card or net banking. Before paying the NIOS registration fee, students should review their form to avoid any inconvenience in NIOS online admission 2026-27.

After filling the NIOS registration form, students should keep track of their NIOS admission status 2026-27 to know if their admission is confirmed or not.

Documents Required for NIOS Registration 2026-27

Students have to upload the scanned copy/soft copy (jpg, jpeg files) of the following documents while filling the NIOS registration form for the October 2026-27 exams:

• Recent passport-size colour Photograph
• Signature (preferably in Black Ink)
• Valid identity proof (like Aadhaar Card or Passport or Ration card etc.)
• Valid proof of Date of Birth
• Valid proof of Residence
• Class 8th mark sheet or Self Certificate (in case of secondary course).
• Class 10th mark sheet (in case of senior secondary course)
• Social Category/Caste Certificate (in case of SC/ST/OBC social category).
• Ex-serviceman certificate (in case he/she is an Ex-serviceman)
• Disability Certificate (in case he or she has one)
• Failed Marksheet mentioning the Reference Number/Enrolment Number (in case the student is applying for Transfer of Credit or TOC)

After registration, a student needs to pay the NIOS exam fees in online mode only. The exam fee is separate from the registration fee. The payment window is opened in November and May for Block 1 and 2 exams, respectively.
