Kerala’s private unaided schools now reserve 25% of seats in entry-level classes for economically weaker sections (EWS) and underprivileged groups. A centralised online lottery system manages the whole allotment process. This digital system ensures an honest and transparent selection process for every student.

To apply for the RTE Kerala Admission 2026, a child must meet the following criteria:
Age limit: The recent education guidelines in Kerala indicate that a child should be at least 6 years old for enrollment in Class 1. This aligns with the National Education Policy.
Economic Weaker Section Status: The economically weaker section (EWS) category is designed for families who require financial help. The status is granted to those holding a valid BPL (Below Poverty Line) card or those who provide an annual income certificate verifying a total family income of less than Rs. 1 lakh.
Disadvantaged Groups: Admission preference is granted to students from various disadvantaged backgrounds. Candidates from SC, ST and OBC communities are included in this category. Special consideration will be provided to the orphans and children with special needs to support their academic journey.
Parents must keep the following documents ready for the RTE Kerala Admission 2026:
Birth Certificate: Parents must carry the Birth certificate to show the child’s age as proof.
Aadhar Card: Provide an Aadhar Card for both the child and the parent/guardian.
Income Certificate: To apply under the EWS category, it is necessary to provide an income certificate issued by the Tehsildar or Sub-Divisional Officer.
Caste Certificate: For SC, ST and OBC, a caste certificate is required.
Disabled Certificate: For disabled candidates, a disability certificate showing 40% disability provided by a civil surgeon or the District Medical Board is required.
Orphanage Certificate: For the orphaned children, a certificate from the Child Welfare Committee of the WCD Department is required for the admission process.
Address Proof: Finally, keep a ration card or utility bill to show that you live in the neighbourhood.
Follow the steps provided below to apply online for RTE Kerala Admission 2026:
New Registration: Parents need to go to Kerala’s official RTE portal to apply for admission. Then create a new profile and fill in the required documents carefully.
School Selection: Parents can select multiple private schools near their home in order of preference.
Documents Upload: Upload the scanned copies of the required documents.
Final Submission: Review the RTE online form and click submit. Download the acknowledgement slip.
The seat allotment for RTE Kerala Admission 2026 is not based on first come-first serve. The government uses a ‘Centralised Lottery System’ as there are limited seats.
If the number of candidates exceeds the available seats, a digital lottery system randomly selects the students.
The RTE Kerala Lottery Result is released on the DGE portal, and selected parents get an SMS notification.
Finally, the parents need to go to the allotted school for verification of the documents.
