Kerala offers around 4.74 lakh Plus One seats for the 2026 admission cycle through the Higher Secondary Centralised Admission Process (HSCAP). These include both regular higher secondary and vocational higher secondary seats. The Kerala government has increased Kerala plus one seat in several districts to address seat shortages following the SSLC results. This year, government schools have received a 30% increase in seats, while aided schools have been allotted a 20% increase. The move aims to ensure that more students secure admission to higher secondary courses across the state. Students can apply for Kerala plus one admission through the official HSCAP portal, hscap.kerala.gov.in.

New Updates to Fix Kerala Plus One Seat Shortages

To ensure that students in high-demand zones do not miss out on seats during the initial allotment rounds, the government has authorised the following measures:

    • Continuation of Temporary Batches: All 313 temporary additional batches created in previous years to combat shortages have been retained for this academic cycle. The vast majority of these (235 batches) are positioned in the Malappuram district, where the crunch is most severe.

    • Marginal Seat Increases: Classroom capacities have been increased to accommodate more students per batch:

      • 30% seat increase in government schools across Thiruvananthapuram, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod.

      • 20% seat increase in aided schools across those same northern districts (with an option for an extra 10% on demand).

      • 20% seat increase across government and aided schools in Kollam, Thrissur, Ernakulam (all taluks except Kothamangalam and Muvattupuzha), and specific taluks in Alappuzha (Ambalapuzha and Cherthala).
