KVS admission is prioritised based on the service category of the parents (e.g., Central Government employees, Armed Forces personnel, State Government employees, and employees of Public Sector Undertakings/Autonomous bodies). Within these categories, preference is often given based on the number of transfers a parent has had in the preceding seven years.
For every section of 40 students in Class 1, the following specific seat reservations apply:
Category | Reserved seats |
|---|---|
Right to Education (RTE) - 25% | 10 seats |
Scheduled Caste (SC) - 15% | 06 seats |
Scheduled Tribe (ST) - 7.5% | 03 seats |
OBC-Non Creamy Layer - 27% | 11 seats |
Children with Special Needs (CwSN) - 3% | Reserved horizontally (3% of total available seats) |
After registration closes, each Kendriya Vidyalaya conducts the lottery in the following specific order:
First Lot (RTE): 10 seats per section are filled from all applicants living in the neighbourhood (within 5 km for major cities/metros or 8 km for other areas).
Second Lot (CwSN): Lotteries for Children with Special Needs under SC/ST/OBC-NCL and Unreserved categories.
Third Lot (Priority Cats): Remaining seats are filled starting with Priority Category I, then Category II (and up to Cat III for Project/IHL schools).
Fourth Lot (Reservation Shortfall): If the reserved seats for SC, ST, or OBC-NCL are not yet filled, the shortfall is addressed by admitting students from those categories based on priority order.
Fifth Lot (Remaining Vacancies): If seats remain, they are filled by applicants from Category III onwards (Cat IV onwards for Project/IHL schools)
