Question 2:
Answer (i) When selenium is treated with magnesium metal, the product obtained is magnesium selenide (MgSe).
Answer (ii) The SI unit of cell constant is per metre (m-1).
Answer (iii) The radioactive element in the lanthanide series is promethium (Pm).
Answer (iv) Cyclohexanol
Answer (v) 2-Hydroxybenzaldehyde
Answer (vii) Chemical name of Teflon: Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)
Answer (viii) Nanoparticle used as effective bacterial disinfectant: Silver nanoparticles
Question 3:
Answer (a) Isomorphism:
Isomorphism is the phenomenon in which two or more compounds have the same crystal structure or similar arrangement of atoms in the crystal lattice, even though their chemical composition may be different.
Answer (b) Unit Cell:
A unit cell is the smallest repeating structural unit of a crystal lattice that, when repeated in three dimensions, reproduces the entire crystal structure.
Question 4:
Answer (i) Atomic radii:
In Group 17, the atomic radius increases from fluorine to astatine.
This is because each successive element has an extra electron shell, increasing the distance between the nucleus and outermost electrons, despite the increasing nuclear charge.
Answer (ii) Electronegativity:
In Group 17, electronegativity decreases from fluorine to astatine.
Fluorine is the most electronegative element. As the atomic size increases down the group, the ability of the nucleus to attract bonding electrons decreases, so electronegativity decreases.
Answer 5:
Homoleptic Complex:
A homoleptic complex is a coordination compound in which a central metal ion is bonded to only one type of ligand.
Heteroleptic Complex:
A heteroleptic complex is a coordination compound in which a central metal ion is bonded to more than one type of ligand.
