The Indian Parliament is the supreme legislative body of the Republic of India. It is a bicameral parliament consisting of the President of India and his two houses (the State Council) and the House of Commons (the House of the People). The president, in his role as head of the legislature, has full power to convene and suspend both houses of Congress or dissolve the House of Representatives. The President may exercise these powers only on the advice of the Prime Minister and the Federal Council of Ministers.

A person elected or nominated (by the President) to either House of Parliament is called a Member of Parliament (MP). Members of the House of Representatives are directly elected by popular vote in India's single-member constituencies, while Rajah Members of Parliament are elected by proportional representation by all state legislatures. The parliament has an approved strength of 543 in the House of Representatives and 245 in the Rajah House of Representatives, including 12 candidates from various fields of expertise in literature, art, science, and social service. . The parliament is held at Sansad Bhavan, New Delhi.
