Introduction

An angle is a geometrical shape, formed when two straight lines or rays meet at a common point, called the vertex of an angle. Angle comes from the Latin word ‘angulus,’ whose meaning is “corner.”

Symbol of Angle

The symbol ∠ represents an angle. The angles are measured in degrees (°) using a special tool called a protractor or 'D' in common.

For example, 90 degrees is represented as 90° and angle ABC is represented as ∠ ABC.

Types of Angles

There are majorly six types of angles, These are:

Acute Angle: the angles between 0° to 90°.

Right Angle: The angle measuring exactly 90°.

Obtuse Angle: angles lying between 90° to 180°.

Straight Angle: Angle measuring exactly 180°.

Reflex Angle: The angle greater than 180° and less than 360°.

Complete Angle: A complete angle measures 360°.

Acute Angle

The angle measuring between 0° to 90° is called an acute angle. For example, when the time is 10 o'clock, the angle formed between the hour and the minute hand is an acute angle. Thus, 35°, 48°, 67°, and so on are all acute angles. An angle with the measure of 0° is not an acute angle. Can a linear pair form out of two acute angles?

The answer is no, since the measure of a linear pair of angles should be 180° and the measure of an acute angle is always less than 90°. Hence, two acute angles will not form a linear pair.

For example, 80° and 88° are two acute angles, then 80° + 88° = 168°, which is less than 180°. Thus, 80° and 88° do not form a linear pair.

Acute Angle Triangle

In an acute-angled triangle, all the angles measure less than 90°. If all three angles of a triangle are equal to 60°, then it forms an equilateral triangle. Acute angle triangles can be classified as acute scalene triangles, acute isosceles triangles, and equilateral triangles based on the measure of their sides. The triangle below has all of its interior angles that measure less than 90°. Thus, it is called an acute triangle.

Acute Angle Parallelogram

A parallelogram is a type of quadrilateral. The sides opposite to each other are parallel and congruent (of the same length). The opposite angles are also equal. A parallelogram has two acute angles and two obtuse angles. Therefore, the two acute angles and the two obtuse angles should have an equal measurements.

Acute Angles in Real Life

The angle in the letter V is an acute angle.

A pizza, if sliced, into four or more slices, each slice of pizza will make an acute angle.

Conclusion

Everything around us is at an angle. We can find angles everywhere in our day-to-day life. Angles are present in all geometric shapes. We can use angles to describe the position of a building or a shop and how we want to paint or decorate them. Many people use angles in their jobs every day, including engineers, architects etc.
