Chatbots that write essays, tools that make images from a line of text, coding assistants that finish your code. Generative AI is behind all of it, and colleges have started building whole degrees around it. One of the most popular is BTech CSE with Generative AI.

This is a four-year engineering degree in computer science with a specialisation in generative AI. You study regular computer science subjects first, then move into topics like large language models and AI content tools. Most colleges give it under BTech as a specialisation, not as a separate degree.
Particulars | Details |

The basic rules are almost the same everywhere.
Pass Class 12 with Physics, Maths and Chemistry (or Computer Science or IT) from a recognised board.
Score at least 60 per cent in aggregate. Some universities give a 5 per cent relaxation to SC, ST and women candidates.
Diploma or BSc holders can join the second year through lateral entry, with about 55 per cent marks.

Admission depends on the college. Here are the routes you’ll see most often.
JEE Main score, which several private universities accept
CUET UG score at some universities
The college’s own entrance test, such as LPU NEST at Lovely Professional University
Merit in Class 12 marks at a few colleges

Diploma (17 Specializations), B.Tech / B.Tech (Hons.) / IE-B.Tech - 4 years - 25+ specializations | M. Tech - 14+ specializations | Highest CTC – 60 LPA
Use the JEE Main college predictor to get a rough idea of where your rank can take you.
Most seats are in private universities, and fees are on the higher side. These are totals for the full four years.
| Colleges | Fees | Entry Exam |
|---|---|---|
Rs. 8.16 Lakhs | JEE Main, CUET or SPSAT | |
Rs. 11.10 Lakhs | JEE Main preferred | |
Rs. 11.76 Lakhs | University merit | |
Rs. 14.60 Lakhs | JEE Main, MRNAT | |
Rs. 16.00 Lakhs | LPU NEST |
A quick word on the high fees. Some of these programmes are run with industry partners. LPU’s course, for example, is done in tie-up with Microsoft, and JECRC’s with L&T EduTech. Ask what the partner actually teaches and what you get at the end, since a partner name alone won’t land you a job.
Subjects vary by college, but the plan looks like this.
Years 1 and 2 build the base:
programming in Python and C++
data structures and algorithms
maths, probability and statistics
databases, operating systems and computer networks
Years 3 and 4 bring in the AI side:
natural language processing
large language models and prompt engineering
multimodal AI, which handles text, images and audio together
AI-driven content generation
AI ethics and responsible AI
a major project and an internship

Good colleges also ask you to build something real, like a chatbot or an image tool, before you graduate. That project often counts more in interviews than your marks.
Students get confused about these three, so here’s the simple version.
A regular BTech CSE is the widest, and you can choose any specialisation later.
BTech in Artificial Intelligence goes deeper into the whole AI field, including robotics and data mining.
BTech CSE with Generative AI focuses on tools that create text, images, code and more.
If you’re not sure, a BTech AI or CSE seat with generative AI electives later keeps your options open. Our guide on generative AI courses after 12th lists other routes too, including BCA.
Graduates mostly land in roles such as generative AI engineer, NLP engineer or prompt engineer. Others move toward machine learning engineer, AI engineer or data scientist jobs.
A fresher’s pay in generative AI roles often falls between Rs. 4 and 8 lakh a year. It’s not a fixed number, though, and it depends on your skills and the company. AI engineers with some experience average about Rs. 12 lakh a year. The numbers go up fast if you have strong projects. They stay low if you only have the degree.
You can also do an MTech later if you want a research or senior path.
It can be, if you pick the college carefully. The field is new, so syllabuses are still settling. Look closely at the labs, the faculty and the actual placement record before you pay Rs. 10 lakh or more. If your budget is tight, a regular BTech CSE or AI degree at a good college, plus self-study in generative AI, is a smart and cheaper path.
BTech CSE with Generative AI puts you close to one of the fastest-growing areas in tech. It makes the most sense if you already enjoy coding and want to work with language and image models. Compare two or three colleges on fees, syllabus and placement record, and don’t pay for a fancy name alone. Whatever you choose, learn Python early and build small projects from the first year. Those habits will matter more than anything else on your degree.

Hello, pursuing an M.Tech in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning after B.E. in AI and ML can help you gain advanced knowledge and specialise in the field. You can explore M.Tech AI and ML colleges and fees details here: https://engineering.careers360.com/colleges/list-of-artificial-intelligence-and-machine-learning-colleges-in-india?degree=6&stream=1&branch=588
You can pursue B.Tech in Robotics, Automation or Mechatronics after Class 12 with PCM. Admission depends on the university and may be through JEE Main or merit.
For example, Galgotias University offers B.Tech in Robotics and Mechatronics, so these can be good options to explore if you're interested in automation
Hi,
Yes, you can still join BE/BTech through KCET counselling. Since you officially discontinued your B.Sc Agriculture seat, submitted the discontinuation letter, and got your TC/documents back without penalty, you are generally eligible to participate in KCET counselling again.
KEA mainly creates issues when students block seats and do not
If you're specifically looking for B.E./ B. Tech in Aerospace Engineering (not Aeronautical Engineering) , it's worth considering LPU as well. Aerospace Engineering is a broader field that covers the design, development, testing, and maintenance of both aircraft and spacecraft , including satellites, rockets, and space exploration systems, whereas Aeronautical
