Punjabi Food | Punjab is referred to as India's breadbasket. Punjabi cuisine is well known for its astounding variety and age-old recipes. Due to Punjab's proximity to Pakistan's border, many Pakistani cuisines found their way into Punjabi cuisine, enhancing its already different flavours.
Art And Craftsmanship | Punjabi people are recognized for their intense interest in arts and crafts. Numerous words feature handicrafts and colourful motifs. For its delicate artistry, "Phulkari" is revered all over the world. Silk shawls are meticulously handwoven with classic patterns as the designs. Other well-known local crafts include lacquer work, woodwork crafts, calico painting, paper mache, and many others.
Tourist Places | Sikhism originated in Punjab, a popular tourist destination. The Sri Harmandir Sahib (or Golden Temple), the holiest of Sikh sanctuaries, is located in the city of Amritsar. Three of Sikhism's five Takhts are located in Punjab. They are Anandpur Sahib, Damdama Sahib, and Sri Akal Takht Sahib. Amritsar's Golden Temple, Jallianwala Bagh, Wagah Border, the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Museum, Patiala's Sheesh Mahal, Quila Mubarak, Moti Bagh Palace, Kali devi Temple, Chandigarh's Sikh Ajaib ghar, Sukhna Lake, Rock Garden, Rose Garden, etc. are a few of the top tourist sites in Punjab.
Baisakhi In Punjab | Agriculture is thriving in Punjab. For the local farmers, Baisakhi is an important occasion since it marks the beginning of the harvest season for the Rabi crops. On this day, farmers celebrate and pray in temples or Gurudwaras. In the Punjabi state, bhangra and giddha performances are frequent around this period.
In 2019, I visited Punjab, and it was an amazing experience. It was around Baisakhi, and there was a burst of vivid colours and a festive atmosphere everywhere. All the city people were there to celebrate the week of Baisakhi. Gurudwaras were turned into vast community places where everyone mingled and celebrated together. There were longer than normal queues for the special Kada Prashad on that day, and the langar (community feast) was organised on a huge scale. There was joyousness all around. To the sounds of the dhol, small groups of people were performing dance and singing boli. On the wrestling mats, the fighters were testing their physical might and entertaining everyone watching them.
