In every age, time, place, and civilisation, women have always been the most at-risk and frequently exploited group in society. Due to a lack of opportunities and medical resources in the past, women's low status became a vicious cycle that needed to be overcome to further India's development. Women have faced humiliation, torture, exploitation, and brutality for ages. Here are a few sample essays on "violence against women".
The advancement of technology in India's modern society and violence against women coexist there. Many forms of violence against women can happen everywhere, whether at home, in public, or at work. Society cannot disregard the significant problem relating to women because it slows the nation's growth by over 50%.
Since ancient times, women have been seen as objects of pleasure in Indian civilization. Since the beginning of social structure and family life, they have been the targets of men's exploitation, humiliation, and cruelty. Even when all forms of violence against women have been eliminated from society, women still have an intense fear of violence that they cannot simply overcome.
India is a traditionally male-dominated nation where women have long had to contend with violence in the community. The rate of violence against women is rising as the world takes the lead in technical advancement, material wealth, etc. Today, horrible killings and rapes are all too regular. Other forms of violence, such as harassment, assault, chain stealing, etc., have become commonplace in contemporary Indian society.
In free India, violence against women has significantly increased. Bride burnings, murders, and other violent acts encourage more violence in society. The concurrent rise is hampering the country's social, economic, political, and cultural progress in violence against women.
Violence against women has existed for a very long time and occurs worldwide. For women, it resulted in bodily and mental suffering. Even though there were many attempts to stop the issue, it was not entirely resolved. This problem exists everywhere for a variety of reasons. After extensive research, we concluded that inequality of power and discrimination are the fundamental causes.
Some myths and tales from the past led people to believe that men's roles in society were more significant than women's. Men can perform more work because they are stronger and more active than women. Additionally, this gives the impression that men are entitled to more rights than women.
There is a lot of violence against women in India because of the male-dominated society here. Women generally face various kinds of crime like dowry death, sexual harassment, cheating, murder, girl child abuse, robbery, etc. The cases of violence against women are increasing day by day and becoming too broad.
The following are the causes of violence against women in India:
Patriarchal Society | Indian society is patriarchal, where women lack the authority to make important family decisions. Additionally, studies found that almost 60% of Indian men believe that women in the home should occasionally be physically punished. Women are perpetually placed in a vulnerable position by this social structure.
Liquor Consumption | Regular alcohol usage by the husband is a leading factor in domestic violence against women. Alcohol is not only to blame for crimes against women outside of the home but also for domestic violence against women. Alcohol boosts the victim's or offender's cognitive abilities, which encourages aggression.
Increased Police Vigilance | Increased police presence is required everywhere, especially at night in remote areas. A woman is much less likely to experience harassment or assault on the road when there is police present. Markets and other crowded areas require the deployment of police officers since the women there are more vulnerable to crimes like eve teasing and groping.
Community Initiative | The best method of preventing domestic violence and other crimes against women is for the community to take steps to reduce violence against women. Domestic violence against women has significantly decreased because of the Nari Adalat programme, which the Uttar Pradesh Department of Education implemented.
Safe Transport | Sexual assaults on women are frequently committed on buses or trains, usually during late hours. Criminals profit from the vehicle's isolation and the lack of police presence. During late-night hours, it is necessary to place at least one female police constable in buses or rail cars.
Recently, I came to know about my domestic helper. I used to notice various marks and wounds on her hands and face. So, I thought to ask her about the scars. As soon as I asked her, she started crying. She said that she is beaten up by her husband almost every day. She has two daughters, and he wants a male child.
He works as a daily wage labourer. He spends all his income on consuming alcohol. I asked my domestic helper to come with me to the nearest police station and report the same. We went to the police station, and she registered a complaint against him. Also, the police visited her home and warned the husband that the next time he created such a nuisance, he would land up in jail. From then onwards, he stopped beating her.
Indian society and the country are stained by violence against women. India's reputation abroad would suffer as long as women in India are subjected to violence. Additionally, episodes of sexual assault, domestic violence, and other crimes against women will continue to harm Indian society and hinder national progress. As a result, it is essential to implement harsh measures to combat all forms of violence against Indian women.
