How Many Industrial Corridors are There in India

Introduction

To be precise, there are 11 Industrial corridors in India. They are, namely,

• Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC): A mega infrastructure project aimed at developing a high-speed industrial zone spanning six states in India.

• Chennai Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC): A planned industrial corridor connecting the major cities of Chennai and Bengaluru with an aim to boost economic growth in the region.

• Extension of CBIC to Kochi via Coimbatore: Proposed extension of CBIC to Kochi via Coimbatore to facilitate the development of an integrated industrial and logistics hub in the southern region of India.

• Amritsar Kolkata Industrial Corridor (AKIC): A proposed industrial corridor connecting the cities of Amritsar and Kolkata to boost industrial development and economic growth in the northern and eastern regions of India.

• Hyderabad Nagpur Industrial Corridor (HNIC): A planned industrial corridor connecting Hyderabad and Nagpur to promote industrialization and development in the central region of India.

• Hyderabad Warangal Industrial Corridor: Proposed industrial corridor connecting the cities of Hyderabad and Warangal to boost industrial development and create employment opportunities in Telangana state.

• Hyderabad Bengaluru Industrial Corridor: Proposed industrial corridor connecting the cities of Hyderabad and Bengaluru to promote industrialization and economic growth in the southern region of India.

• Bengaluru Mumbai Industrial Corridor: A planned industrial corridor connecting Bengaluru and Mumbai to promote industrial development and create employment opportunities in the region.

• Vizag Chennai Industrial Corridor: Proposed industrial corridor connecting the cities of Visakhapatnam and Chennai to boost industrialization and economic growth in the eastern region of India.

• Odisha Economic Corridor: A proposed economic corridor connecting the major cities and ports in the state of Odisha to promote industrial development and economic growth in the region.

• Delhi Nagpur Industrial Corridor: A planned industrial corridor connecting Delhi and Nagpur to promote industrialization and development in the central region of India.

Brief Description

First of all, it is necessary to understand what these industrial corridors are and why they are called so. So, to proceed further, the Indian Government has come up with a plan to develop various Industrial Corridor Projects, as mentioned above. Being a part of the National Industrial Corridor program, it is aimed to develop industrial cities in India which can compete with the world’s prominent cities in the future., in the field of manufacturing and investment. Such schemes will not only create employment opportunities but also lead to the socio-economic development of the country in the most sustainable form.

Nowadays, similar schemes are brought by the Indian government, such as the Gift City area in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, which is declared the first tax-free zone of the nation. This was done to promote entrepreneurship and the free flow of business operations that can generate huge employment opportunities and together lead to the per-capita growth of the country.

For the construction of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) project, the West DFC will be considered as the transportation backbone, and East DFC

will be considered as the transportation backbone for the Amritsar Kolkata Industrial Corridor (AKIC) project. Similarly, NH-4 has been considered the transport backbone for other industrial corridor projects, such as the Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC) and the Bengaluru-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (BMIC). Part of the Golden Quadrangle, the Kolkata-Chennai Railway, forms the transport backbone on National Highway 5 of the East Coast Economic Corridor (ECEC).

Proposed dedicated northeast-southeast-west and east coast freight corridors complement the respective transportation backbones of the corresponding industrial corridors.

Four cities in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh have already been built as part of the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) project, with 77 plots proposed for the investment of around Rs. So far, 536 acres have been completed. 16,100 crore. The total additional available developed land allocated for the industry is 3,620 acres, and 3,000 acres for non-industrial use.

Apart from the Industrial Corridor, there is also the Defense Corridor, India ranks among the top five in military spending, and it is one of the luxury centres of defence production in the world. It was established not only to support the growth of the defence sector but also to improve the sector's manufacturing capabilities. Thus, India will establish two industrial defence corridors, one each in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

From the above-mentioned facts, it is clear that India has not just entered the Industrial Revolution, but it has also created some incredible revelations in terms of the schemes. The Indian Government has shown remarkable achievement in its schemes and approach towards sustainable growth. After the Industrial revolution was brought into the picture, there was a tremendous and drastic change in the people's mindset, which led the country’s government to take such revolutionised steps.
