There are 12 face cards (Kings, queens, and jacks), and there are 36 numbered cards.

The standard deck of 52 cards from French-suited playing cards is today's most common pack of playing cards. In English-dominated countries, it is the only traditional pack that is used for card games; in many other countries around the globe, however, it is used alongside other conventional standard old packages with different systems of suits that belong to different nationalities such as German-, Italian-, Spanish- or Swiss suits. In addition to all these suit systems, there are also other major international and regional patterns of cards.

Composition

There are thirteen ranks in each of the four suits of standard cards of the 52 deck, which are clubs (♣), diamonds (♦), hearts (♥) and spades (♠). Each suit contains three face cards, King, Queen and Jack, which are presented by reversible (double-headed) images. Each suit contains ten numeral cards, from two to ten. The card with one numeral is called an Ace.

Card Size

In the beginning, the size of playing cards was dependent on the printers, but during the time of the 19th century, sizes were standardised for cards, initially to a size of 3½ x 2½ inches. In modern days these cards are often called "poker-sized" cards or "wide" cards. These Wider playing cards had many advantages: they were much harder to cheat, and if packs were unavailable, dog-eared cards could be trimmed smaller. Narrower cards, also known as "bridge-sized" or "whist-sized" cards, were first used in Europe and allowed the players to handle the larger deck of cards which were required for games such as bridge.

Traditional Card Games

Blackjack: it is also called 21 and is the most popular and known card game among people, so popular that it's played in big casinos. The main purpose of Blackjack is to reach a score nearer to 21 than the dealer without going over.

Solitaire: Solitaire is a single-player game where cards are stacked in suit order. Gin rummy is similar but is played between two or more players, and the goal is to lose all the cards by arranging them in sets of three or four or more.

Poker: The game of poker uses a standard 52-card deck, and it mostly involves betting. It is played in a number of different ways, but the basic concept of the game is to make the best five-card hand with the cards you are dealt as well as shared cards which are known as community cards.
