For every GATE aspirant, a common question that arises in each of the candidates is, "For how many years is the GATE score valid?" The answer to this question is 3 years. Since the GATE 2023 examination will be conducted in February 2023, many aspirants are confused about the validity of the GATE score. Let us understand it in a better way.
The word 'Validity' becomes a confusing term for most candidates when used with the GATE Exam Score. This means:
A qualifying GATE score means that your marks secured in the GATE exam should be more than or at least equal to the qualifying marks.
A period (mostly measured in years) for which the institutions accept the scorecard.
Many candidates have the misconception that the GATE Scores are valid for just one year. However, that is not the case. Since there is no age limit for the exam, the aspirants are allowed to appear in the exams as many times as they prefer.
After the issue of the GATE Scorecard, it is valid for 3 years.
If the aspirant wants to improve his or her score, he or she can retake the exam the following year.
The candidate has the option to use any of the multiple valid scorecards during admission to the desired institutions.
For admission to IITs, the validity of the GATE Score is 3 years
The top-ranking candidates with an AIR less than 200 will have the opportunity to get direct admission into the IITs and IISc.
Candidates with GATE Scores ranging from 600 to 800 have higher chances of getting into reputed institutions.
The validity of the GATE score for admission to NITs is also three years.
Centralised counselling cutoffs are within 300 to 900 for popular programs.
Cutoffs for less popular programmes are lower.
Admission to these institutes is granted through the CCMT, which is organised by NIT every year.
The PSU Department has started accepting candidates through GATE for different jobs.
According to the category and discipline, the GATE score for PSU recruitment is different for each PSU.
For recruitment, some PSUs consider the GATE score for the current year, while others consider the scorecard of the previous years.
Various PSUs, such as NTPC and GAIL, prefer to call only the top rankers for interviews, and candidates with an AIR less than 50 have a better chance of getting an interview call from these PSUs.
Any candidate scoring more than the cutoff is eligible for counselling.
Universities or institutions can decide their GATE cutoffs
A scorecard is made available to those who secure equal to or more than the qualifying marks
Moreover, the factors that determine the qualifying marks are:
The complexity of the question paper
Number of applicants that appeared in the exam
Number of available seats in the institutions
Category of the candidates that have applied for admission
Visit the official GATE website and check for the scorecard link
Log in to the respective section with the enrollment ID and password.
The scorecard tab will be visible.
When you click the score tab, the scorecard appears on the screen.
Click on the download link and take a printout of the scorecard.
Candidates can use one valid GATE score for the admissions process. If their previous year's score is better than the current year, then they can use the previous year's scores.
The recruitment procedure at PSUs starts 10–15 days after the exam. However, this varies from one PSU to another.
The 12th mark does not hold any importance in GATE. It solely depends on how well you do in the entrance examination.
The duration of the GATE examination is 3 hours.
Multiple Choice Questions, Multiple Select Questions and Numerical Answer Type Questions are generally asked in the GATE examination.
