Now before answering this question first let's learn about whole numbers. Whole numbers are positive numbers starting from 0. Do you know the difference between whole numbers and natural numbers? Natural numbers are numbers that start from 1 and go up to infinity whereas whole numbers are numbers that start from 0 and go up to infinity. This means 0 is only a whole number but not a natural number. Now to find how many whole numbers lie between any two numbers first we have to do subtraction, then after this again subtract one from the answer which we get by subtracting two numbers.

To find the whole number between 38 and 68 first we have to do subtraction.
So, subtract 38 from 68 to get the answer.
68-38= 30
Now to find the total number subtract 1 from the difference between these two numbers.
30-1 = 29.
39,40,41,42,43,44,45,46,47,48,49,50,51,52,53,54,55,56,57,58,59,60,61,62,63,64,65,66,67 are the whole numbers lie between 38 and 68.
Other than this, we can solve this problem by using a formula.
( a-b)-1,
Remember a>b
Where a and b are two whole numbers between which we have to find how many whole numbers lie between them.
68-38-1=29.
So, 29 whole numbers lie between 38 and 68.
Examples:
Find whole numbers between 45 and 29
To find the whole number first subtract these two numbers. After subtracting 1 from the solution we get our answer.
45-29 = 16
16-1 = 15.
Or
we can also say use a formula to solve this problem.
a-b-1,
Here, a= 45
b = 29
45-29-1 = 15.
So, 15 whole numbers lie between 45 and 23.
Find whole numbers between 60 and 20
Again subtract 20 from 60
60-20= 40
Then subtract 1 from 40
40-1=39.
Or
a-b-1
60-20-1 = 39.
So, 39 whole numbers lie between 60 and 20.
Find the whole number between 56 and 84
Again subtract 56 from 84.
84-56=28.
After this, subtract one again from the answer which we get by subtracting two numbers.
Then subtract 1 from 28.
28-1=27.
Or
This question can also be solved by using the above formula.
a-b-1
Here a=56
b =84
84-56-1= 27.
So, there are 27 whole numbers between 56 and 84.
