Introduction

Indian Railways divides into different zones, and each division has its headquarters. Indian Railway network is the biggest in Asia and the Fourth largest in the world and one of the types of transportation which connect different parts of the country and provide affordable means of connectivity to the population.

Indian Railways is known to be a lifeblood of the country because it transports both Freight and Passengers. Indian Railways plays a crucial role in the economic development and integration of the country and enhance its progress. Along with being beneficial to citizens also aided the expansion of several businesses.

Historically too Indian Railway played an important role in spreading nationalist views and as means to connect patrons from different parts of the country and fight for their grievances imposed by the Britishers on the native peoples.

Different zones have been formed to lessen the burden on railways zone, and their operating units are known as Divisions. So in total, 16 zones are currently working.

Sub Divisions of Zones with headquarters

The central zone headquarters is in Mumbai, and the division of this zone is in the following areas:

  • Mumbai

  • Nagpur

  • Bhusawal

  • Pune

  • Sholapur

The East Central Railway zone headquarters is in Hajipur and is subdivided into:

  • Danapur

  • Mugalsarai

  • Dhanbad

  • Sonpur

  • Samastipur

The next Zone is Eastern Railway Zone, and its headquarters is found in Kolkata and sub-divided into the following zones:

  • Howrah-I

Conclusion

Indian Railway is transforming with time in every form, from the pantry to the speed of the train, taking steps to reduce accidents by a coalition of trains by facilitating KAVACH systems in Indian trains to stop casualties. Indian Railways are also in contact with the world's Railways to adopt technologies and to make the country more integrated. This will promote less time taken in the transportation of goods as India faces this problem of more time taken which even makes perishable goods of no use.
