How many oceans are there in the world?

There are a total of five oceans in the world. The ocean spans 71 percent of the planet. A range of historical, cultural, geographical, and scientific factors have contributed to the evolution of these territories' borders over time.
The Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, and Arctic oceans were the first four to be given names. But today, the majority of nations, including the United States, acknowledge the Southern (Antarctic) Ocean as the fifth ocean. The three most well-known are the Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian.

What are oceans?

The ocean is a vast, saline body of water that occupies around 72% of the surface of the planet. Oceanographers and nations have, nevertheless, separated this ocean into recognisably named geographic areas. From marine bacteria to the blue whale, the largest animal in the world, the ocean is home to a wide variety of marine life. Even so, we have only investigated or documented around 20% of the ocean, despite the fact that it is crucial to maintaining life on Earth. The rest remains a mystery.

Arctic ocean

• The Arctic Ocean is found in the Northern Hemisphere's Arctic north polar area and is the world's smallest, coldest, and shallowest ocean.

• It is found to be 18,456 feet deep, the deepest measurement ever made.

• A polar climate zone, where the Arctic Ocean is situated, is characterised by extremely cold temperatures all year long.

Atlantic ocean

• The geographical masses of North and South America to the west, and Asia and Africa to the east, encircle the 85,133,000 square kilometer Atlantic Ocean.

• Its borders are the Pacific Ocean to the southwest, the Indian Ocean to the southeast, the Arctic Ocean to the north, and the Southern Ocean to the south.

• The Milwaukee Deep (8,380 m) in the Puerto Rico Trench is the deepest known location in the Atlantic Ocean, which has an average depth of 3,646 m.

Pacific ocean

• The Pacific Ocean is the largest part of the world's oceans, bordered by the Arctic Ocean to the north, the Southern Ocean to the south, Australia and Asia to the west, and the Americas to the east.

• One-third of the earth's surface, or 168,723,000 square kilometers, is taken up by the Pacific Ocean.

• The Mariana Trench (10,929 m), which is in the western North Pacific, contains the deepest point in the Pacific Ocean, known as Challenger Deep.

Indian ocean

• The Indian Ocean covers a surface area of 70,560,000 square kilometers.

• The Indian Ocean is to the north of the Eurasian landmass, Australia is to the east, Africa is to the west, the Southern Ocean is to the south, and Antarctica is to the south.

• The deepest point in the Indian Ocean, Diamantina Deep, is 3,741 meters deep. There are 8,047 meters of depth here.

Southern ocean

• It is the fourth largest and the most southern of the five Global Ocean areas.

• It is a deep ocean, with most areas between 4,000 and 5,000 meters deep.

• The Southern Ocean is classified as a separate oceanic division despite not having a continent bordering it to the north because of the differences in the water's physical characteristics south of the 60° S latitude.
