Introduction

National premises and wildlife sanctuaries are a residence to numerous wild creatures because of the optimum environmental conditions with proper parenting and breeding installations. In total, 106 public premises and 565 wildlife sanctuaries are presently present in India. Gujarat, a state in the western part of India, has an aggregate of four National Parks and twenty-three wildlife sanctuaries which are managed by the Forest Department under the Government of Gujarat

National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries

Area: 1,410.30 km sq, 258.71 km sq (national park) and 1,151.59 km sq (wildlife sanctuary).

Fauna: Asiatic lion, leopard, spotted deer, hyena, sambar deer, chinkara, crocodiles and birds.

Flora: babul, ber, Jamun, the flame of the forest, tendu and dhak. Plants like karanj, umlo, amli, sirius, kalam, charal, and banyan tree.

Blackbuck National Park

This demesne was established in 1976 in the Bhal region of Saurashtra. It was primarily a champagne of the maharaja of the kingly state of Bhavnagar for hunting the blackbucks with his cheetahs. Flat land, dry meadows and herds of antelope have always attracted callers to this demesne.

Location: Velavadar district Bhavnagar

Vansda National Park

Also known as Bansda National Park, established in 1979, riding on the banks of Ambika swash. Original lines, Gira Falls, and the Conservation centre are also its magnet. The stylish time to visit is post-monsoon season till downtime, when the timbers are lush green and aqueducts are full.

Location: Navsari district

Area: 24 km sq.

Fauna: leopard, hyena, deer, chausingha, venomous snakes, pythons etc.

Flora: teak, sadad, timru, kalam, bamboo, dudhkod, mahudo, umaro, kusum, tanach, ambla, sisam, chopadi bondaro, orchids, etc.

Marine National Park

It was established in 1982. There are 42 islets on the Jamnagar seacoast in the Marine National Park, the utmost of them girdled by reefs. The best-known islet is Pirotan.

Location: Gulf of Kutch district, Dwarka.

Area: 162.89 km sq.

Fauna: 70 species of sponges, 54 species of corals, 90 species of birds, jellyfish, seahorse, octopus, pearl oyster, starfish, lobster, dolphin

Kutch Desert Wildlife Sanctuary

It was declared a sanctuary in February 1986. It's the largest Wildlife Sanctuary in India, areawise. Furthermore, it's one of the largest seasonal saline washes, having an average water depth between 0.5 and 1.5 meters. By October – November, rainwater dries up, turning the area into a saline desert.

Location: Great Rann of Kutch, Kutch district.

Area: 7506.22 km sq

Fauna: Wolf, hyena, jackal, chinkara, wild ass, blue bull, wild boar, Indian porcupine, pale hedgehog, mongoose, rufous-tailed hare, desert fox, spiny-tailed lizard etc.

Flora: Prosopis chilensis, kahri jar, mithi jar, gugal, thor, lai, khijado, gorad, hermo baval, kerdo, bokhano etc.

Wild Ass Sanctuary

It is also known as the Wild Ass Wildlife Sanctuary. It was started in 1972 and came under the wildlife protection act in the same year. Furthermore, it is serving as a home to the remaining population of the chestnut-coloured Indian wild ass (khur), blue bulls, blackbuck and chinkara.

Location: Little Rann of Kutch

Area: 4954 km sq

Fauna: a variety of assets, chinkara (Indian gazelle), desert fox (Indian and White-footed), jackals, caracals (African lynx), nilgais, Indian wolves, migratory birds, blackbucks, and striped hyenas.

Shoolpaneshwar Wildlife Sanctuary

Established in the year 1982 as Dumkhal Sanctuary, which used to serve as a home for sloths.

Location: Nizampura in Vadodara district

Area: 607.7 km sq

Fauna: leopards, sloth bears, pangolins, barking deer, birds and reptiles.

Flora: bamboo, teak and 575 species of flowering plants.

Balaram Ambaji Wildlife Sanctuary

Started in August 1989, it falls in the catchment area of Banas and Sabarmati gutters, and it's a part of the Khatar- For dry evanescent timber's ecoregion. The period from October to May is considered to be a stylish time to visit.

Location: Banaskantha

Area: 542.08 Km2

Fauna: sloth, bear, striped hyena, leopard, blue bull, porcupine, fox, small Indian civet, Indian pangolin, reptiles etc.

Flora: 483 species of plants.

Narayan Sarovar Sanctuary

Popularly known as Narayan Sarovar Wildlife Sanctuary or Narayan Sarovar Chinkara Sanctuary was established in 1981. The desert timber in this sanctuary is said to be the only one of its kind in India. It's notorious for its exceptional ecosystem supporting rich biodiversity including some rare creatures and catcalls and rare flowering shops.

Area: 444.23

Fauna: Chinkara, green day, desert cat, hyena, desert fox, jackal, birds, herpetofauna

Flora: 252 species including desi baval, hermo, ber, thor, gando baval, gugal, ingorio, kerdo, cariso etc.
