In the mathematics metric system, centimeters and meters are both units of distance measurement. Both units help in calculating the length of an object or subject. A centimeter is the metric unit of length in the International System of Units, equal to one-hundredth of a meter. According to the International System of Units, a meter is one of the fundamental length units. It is equal to hundred centimeters. Mathematically it is written as 1 meter= 100 centimeters
Centimeters are denoted by cm.
Meter is denoted by a small m.
And the relation between them is given by 1cm=100 m
1) Interpretation- The first step while calculating centimeters (cm) into meters (m) is to interpret that 1cm=1/100 meters. This means that while calculating centimeters into meters, one must divide the measurement by a hundred. According to the prefix, centi means one-hundredth, so mathematically, it equates to 1/100 meters.
For example, if 50 cm is needed to be converted into meters, we would divide 50 by 100, and the answer would be in meters.
Mathematically: 50cm/100= 0.5meters (m)
2) Locating the decimal point- The second step while converting centimeters (cm) into meters (m) is locating the decimal point in the starting number that is provided. For example: If there is a number 88.9 cm, the decimal point, in this case, is located between 8 and 9. Similarly, if there is a number 18cm, the decimal point is inferred, and to make the decimal point visible, the number needs to be rewritten so that the decimal point is visible. It would be rewritten as 18.0cm.
Even if the measurement is written in a fraction format, we need to rewrite it. For example, the measurement provided is 81 and a half we would rewrite it as 81.5cm.
3) Shifting the decimal point- In the next step, while converting centimeters (cm) into meters (m), we need to slide the decimal point two places to the left. For example, the measurement provided to us is 869.5 cm, and if we shift the decimal by two places to the left, we get 8.695. The answer we get is in meters. So, the final answer would be 869.5cm=8.695m.
4) Adding zeros if needed- The next step is adding zeros. For example, If there is only one digit available and it’s unable to shift the decimal point to the left, then, in this case, zero must be added towards the left, therefore, 8.16cm= 0.0816m.
5) Dividing - The number by a hundred is the easiest and quickest solution to convert centimeters into meters. The measurement provided in centimeters would be divided by a hundred to get our answer in meters.
For example, the measurement is 15, which is provided in centimeters, and we need to convert it into meters we would divide 15 by 100 to get our answer in meters.
15cm equals 15/100m.
15cm equals 0.15m.
Centimeters are denoted by the letter ‘cm’ in small.
Meter is denoted by the letter ‘m’ in small.
In the mathematical equation, 1cm = 0.01m.
If we shift the decimal point, our answer would be 0.158.
15.8cm = 0.158m
10 centimeters is equal to 1 decimeter.
So 1 centimeter is equal to 0.1 decimeters.
