UPSC stands for Union Public Service Commission. It is a government agency in India that is responsible for conducting various exams to recruit candidates for various civil service positions in the Indian government. The UPSC conducts a number of exams, each of which has a different purpose and is intended for a specific set of candidates. This article gives a general idea of those exams and their purposes.
CSE is one of the most well-known examinations conducted by the UPSC. The candidates appearing for this exam aim to be recruited to top central government agencies including Indian Administrative Services (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and many other prestigious positions. It is one of the toughest and most competitive examinations in India.
CSE consists of a preliminary aptitude test exam followed by the main exam with detail-oriented questions. After clearing both of these exams, there is an interview/personality test after which the final results will be published.
ESE is conducted annually by the UPSC for the recruitment of engineers in various branches of the Indian government, such as the Indian Railways, the Central Public Works Department, and the Military Engineering Services which come under Indian Engineering Services (IES).
The ESE is conducted in two stages, the preliminary exam and the main exam. Candidates who pass the preliminary exam are eligible to take the main exam, which is the final stage of the selection process.
In addition to the written exam, candidates are also required to take a personality test. This is conducted by the UPSC and is designed to assess the candidate's suitability for a career in the Indian government.
NDA examination is conducted twice a year for the recruitment of cadets to the National Defense Academy, a premier training institution for the Indian Armed Forces.
The NDA exam follows a similar pattern as other UPSC exams with a written exam and an interview/personality test. Successful candidates are appointed as cadets at the National Defense Academy situated in Khadakwasla, Pune, Maharashtra and undergo a rigorous three-year training program. Upon graduation, they are commissioned as officers in the Indian Army, Indian Navy, or Indian Air Force.
CMS is a highly competitive examination held annually in India for the selection of candidates for various medical and health services in the country.
The CMS Exam is a two-stage examination, consisting of a written exam and a personality test. The written exam includes a general ability test and a specialised paper that tests the candidate's knowledge of medical science, including subjects such as anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, pharmacology, and microbiology.
The Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) exam is a competitive examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for recruitment to various posts in the paramilitary forces of India. These forces include the Border Security Force (BSF), the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
The CAPF exam is conducted every year and consists of two stages: the written examination and the physical efficiency test. Candidates who pass the written examination are eligible to appear for the physical efficiency test. Those who pass the physical efficiency test are then called for a medical examination, after which the final selection is made based on the candidate's overall performance in the written examination, physical efficiency test, and medical examination.
SCRA exam is held annually for the selection of candidates for the Special Class Railway Apprentice program, which is a prestigious and sought-after engineering program run by the Indian Railways.
The SCRA exam is open to Indian citizens who have completed their 10+2 education with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as their main subjects. Candidates must also be between the ages of 17 and 21 at the time of the examination. Successful candidates who pass both the written examination and the personality test are admitted to the Special Class Railway Apprentice program, which is a four-year program that provides in-depth training in engineering. The program is run by the Indian Railways and is considered to be one of the best engineering programs in the country.
IFS examination is held annually for the selection of candidates for the Indian Forest Service, which is a prestigious and sought-after service under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
The IFS examination is open to Indian citizens who have a Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university. Candidates must also be between the ages of 21 and 32 at the time of the examination. Successful candidates who pass both the written examination and the personality test are appointed to the Indian Forest Service, which is a crucial service that is responsible for the conservation and management of forests and wildlife in India. IFS officers are also involved in the policy-making and implementation of various environmental laws and regulations.
The CDS examination is held twice a year for the selection of candidates for the Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, Indian Air Force Academy, and Officers Training Academy.
The CDS examination is open to Indian citizens who have a Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university. Candidates must also meet the age and physical standards prescribed by the respective academies. Successful candidates who pass the written examinations and the interview are appointed to the respective academies, where they undergo rigorous training to become officers in the Indian Army, Indian Navy, Indian Air Force, or the Officers Training Academy.
In conclusion, the UPSC conducts a total of 10 examinations, which include both civil services and non-civil services examinations.
