As the word “binary” suggests “two”, it is obvious that the numbering system which uses 2 as its base is what you call the Binary Number System.
The concept of the Binary Number System dates back to the initiation of the computer age. Basically, when computers were first designed, the hardware used was massive. To make the-then computer realize the human instructions, the only way was to use the switches.
As the switches can have only two states, namely ON and OFF, the machine code which the computers understand is also based on two states. The states were denoted as 0 and 1.
When the switch is on, it implies the passage of current. On the other hand, when the switch is off, it denotes the blockage of current.
Thus, the Binary Number System uses the following concept.
The digit 0 suggests no current or no voltage as per positive logic.
The digit 1 suggests the passage of current or the presence of voltage as per positive logic.
Some of the different applications of the Binary Number System are as follows.
It is used in computer circuits to perform all the tasks like storing data, retrieving data from the CPU, etc.
It finds usage in any digital circuits which are the building blocks of all digital devices like your cell phones, laptops, etc.
It is used for programming in devices like automatic machines, buzzers, etc.
Also, the Binary Number System is used for the digital monitoring and management of energy and power systems.
The base of the decimal number system is 10 while the Binary Number System has 2 as its base.
Any number from the decimal number system can be converted to its corresponding value in the Binary Number System and vice versa.
Without the Binary Number System, the machine code is impossible which in turn, implies that the digital world is based upon the Binary Number System.
Every piece of information in the Binary Number System has two bits 0 and 1.
1 byte of information signifies eight bits.
