In Julian and Gregorian Calendars, March is the third month in a year. It is one of the seven months which have 31 days in a year. The origin of March name comes from the Martius mensis, or the month of Mars, which was the first month in the earliest calendar of Romans. It is the first day of March in the Northern Hemisphere that marks the meteorological beginning of spring. At the March equinox on March 20 or 21, the Northern Hemisphere begins spring astronomically and in the Southern Hemisphere, autumn begins, with September as the equivalent of March in the Northern Hemisphere.
