Introduction

Tamil Nadu is a state of India which is located in the extreme south of the subcontinent it is bounded by the Indian Ocean to the east and south and by the states of Kerala to the west, Karnataka (formerly Mysore) to the northwest, and Andhra Pradesh to the north which is Enclosed by Tamil Nadu along the north-central coast are the enclaves of Puducherry and Karaikal, both are part of Puducherry union territory. The capital is Chennai, Madras is on the coast in the northeastern portion of the state. Tamil Nadu represents the Tamil-speaking area which was formerly the Madras Presidency of British India. The Tamils are especially proud of their Dravidian language and culture, and they have notably resisted attempts by the central government to make Hindi the sole national language.

There are 15 municipal corporations in Tamil Nadu and city Municipal Corporations, the local governing bodies of those cities in that particular state. Tamil Nadu, stands in the 11th position in India area wise and as of this year 2020, the state comprises 38 districts, 15 municipal corporations and 146 municipalities. On 14 February 2019, the Tamil Nadu government announced in the Assembly that Hosur and Nagercoil will have the new municipal corporations and Avadi upgraded a municipal corporation on 19 June 2019 and it will be the most recent city having been proclaimed as the municipal corporation for that city.
