The Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE), Odisha, has set specific passing criteria for Class 12. Students must achieve the minimum required marks in theory papers separately, as internal assessment or practical marks will not contribute to passing the theory exam. The Odisha Class 12 exam is scheduled to be held from February 18 to March 25, 2026.
To pass the Odisha CHSE 12th exams, students must score:
30% of full marks in theory exams, regardless of internal marks.
Overall minimum passing marks, including practical/internal assessment.
For example, in subjects like English, History, and Political Science, where the full marks for theory are 80, a student must score at least 24 marks in theory to pass. Even if a student scores well in internal assessments, failing to secure 24 out of 80 in theory will result in failing the subject.
Below is a detailed breakdown of the passing marks for different subjects in the CHSE Odisha Class 12 examination 2026.
| Subject | Full marks (theory) | Passing marks (theory) | Practical/Internal assessment | Passing marks (practical) | Overall passing marks |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
English | 80 | 24 | 20 | N/A | 30 |
History | 80 | 24 | 20 | N/A | 30 |
Political Science | 80 | 24 | 20 | N/A | 30 |
Chemistry | 70 | 21 | 30 | 9 | 30 |
Physics | 70 | 21 | 30 | 9 | 30 |
Mathematics | 80 | 24 | 20 | N/A | 30 |
Vocational Subjects | 40 | 12 | 60 | 18 | 30 |
Note: N/A indicates subjects without practical components.
If a student fails to secure the required passing marks in any subject, they have the following options:
Odisha 12th Supplementary Exams:
CHSE Odisha conducts Odisha Class 12 supplementary exams for students who fail in one or more subjects.
Students must register for the compartment exams after the declaration of Odisha 12th results.
Re-evaluation or Rechecking:
Students can apply for re-evaluation if they believe there has been a mistake in the marking process.
A nominal fee is charged for re-evaluation per subject.
Improvement Exams:
If a student wishes to improve their scores, they can reappear for the examination in the following academic year.
