The Tamil Nadu RTE admission 2025-26 has started from October 9, 2025, for students in entry-level classes LKG to Class 1. Earlier, the Government of Tamil Nadu issued the admission notification under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act on October 6, 2025. As per the RTE Act, 2009, all unaided non-minority private schools across the state must reserve 25% of seats in entry-level classes for children from economically weaker sections.

Since the academic year has already started, the government has decided that the admission under this category for the academic year 2025-26 will cover those eligible students who are already enrolled in entry-level classes in unaided and non-minority schools. Only eligible students can apply for the RTE Tamil Nadu admission 2025-26. The required TN RTE age limit for LKG 2025-26 admission is between 3 years to 4 years as of July 31, 2025. Below, we have provided a table for the RTE age limit for LKG and Class 1 for reference.

In case the Tamil Nadu RTE admission application exceeds 25% quota, the government will officially select random candidates after offering admission to the priority category. The Tamil Nadu RTE admission 2025-26 will be based on priority level for children belonging to backward/ economically weaker sections, including orphans, HIV-affected/infected children, transgender children, children of scavengers, and differently-abled children.
As per the official statement, “The admission under this category for this academic year will be carried out among the children who are already admitted in the entry-level class of the school. A special 10-day online admission window has been scheduled to regularise eligible children already admitted under the RTE quota.” The state government has also ordered schools not to collect any tuition fees from eligible students under the RTE Act and to refund any fees collected already within 7 working days.
