With an aim to enhance the creative instincts of school kids between the ages of 16-18, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi is organising a summer boot camp from May 23 to June 24, 2022. The non-residential camp, named ‘Change Makers’, will make the institute’s facilities available to students.
The activities will include students being made to undergo “rapid prototyping-based training” in digital fabrication techniques. The training will take place at the Makerspace, a do-it-yourself facility at IIT Delhi. According to camp co-ordinator Jay Dhariwal, the students will be able to use the IIT Delhi facilities till the end of the boot camp. At this camp, students will be learning to create and build electro-mechanical prototypes to address various problems such as building a monitor to control air pollution, or creating various devices for the visually-impaired. They will also be mentored by students of IIT Delhi. Applications are open till May 7, or until slots are all claimed.
SP Robotics Maker Lab, with branches in cities such as Hyerabad, Bengaluru and Kolkata, is hosting a variety of summer camps in May, which will train high school students in various stages of robotics, including beginner, middle and advanced stages. The course includes an introduction to robotics, LED lighting, switch interfaces, working with motors and more. Candidates have to deposit “caution money” of Rs 500 which will be refunded once the camp is over. Participants will also get a crash course on advanced robotical coding. The camp will be held at Electronics City, Bengaluru. The options for the camps are given below.
The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya Museum Art Conservation Centre (CSMVS MACC) is organising a training course in natural history collections.
The course will be followed by a one-month internship in various organisations. The institute is involved in conservation of artistic, contemporary and historic works. CSMVS is organising a training course on conservation, with special emphasis on taxidermy, in collaboration with Tata Trusts Art Conservation Initiative. Applications are open till May 14.
In a great opportunity for youngsters who are nature and wildlife enthusiasts, the Outback Experience is bringing the Young Naturalist Summer Wildlife Camp for children aged 10 to 16. This camp will be hosted at Bannerghatta, Karnataka, and last three days.
The camp is being hosted at the Outback Farm and Homestay, which is situated on the edge of a lake. The three-day camp will be dedicated to making the youngsters experience the joys of wildlife tracking, bird-watching, angling and wildlife photography. What’s more, award-winning Canadian photojournalist Philip Ross will be the camp leader.
Of the four batches, three are already full, with applications for the fourth batch open from May 24-26, 2022.
Chennai Photo Binennale Foundation, also known as the CPB Foundation, is hosting a photography camp for young students in Chennai. The Annual Photography Summer Camp will involve a host of photography-related activities, including photo-walks in various parts of Chennai.
Participants will be taught the basics of photography, and get to hone their talents in specialised activities such as Cyantrope Printmaking. Cyantrope printing involves developing prints by exposing light-sensitive material to the sun and is one of the most popular alternative photography methods. The camp, allowing kids aged 12-16, will be in operation from May 9 to 14, 2022. The venue is Children’s Club in Mylapore. Participants must bring their own cameras.
Barry John’s Acting School is hosting an acting workshop for children aged 8-15. This workshop will take place at a summer camp which includes skit performances and learning about the different methods of acting. Children’s creativity will be encouraged in various ways, including allowing them to write their own plays, complete with character development and dialogues. Children will be encouraged to act in any role of their own choosing, and they will also receive theatrical training and knowledge. At the end of the workshop and summer camp which will last for four weeks, the kids will be given a certificate of participation.
