Maharashtra HSC Board Exam Date:23 Jan' 26 - 09 Feb' 26
The board examination system is evolving across various educational boards in India. Recently, CBSE announced the introduction of a two-examination system for CBSE Class 10. Students appearing for the Maharashtra SSC and Maha HSC 2026 board exams may be wondering if the Maharashtra Board is also planning to introduce a two-exam system like some other boards. With changes being introduced by national and state boards such as CBSE, CGBSE and KSEAB, the curiosity among students in Maharashtra is growing.

Let us walk you through the latest update on this.
The two-examination system is being introduced by various boards with the motive of giving students multiple chances to improve their scores, and align with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The Karnataka Board has been successfully conducting the 3-examination system for a couple of years now. It has provided students with a lot of edge and flexibility to improve their scores. The aim has been to reduce mental pressure to score well in just 1 examination. The board conducts exams three times a year for both SSLC and PUC students.
The CBSE Board, as well, has confirmed that all students will be allowed to take CBSE 10th board exams on up to two occasions during any given school year, one main examination and one for improvement, if desired.
As of now, the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) has made no official announcement regarding the adoption of a two-exam system for SSC or HSC students.
Currently, the board continues with its traditional single annual exam format, followed by MSBSHSE supplementary exams for those who do not pass in one or more subjects.
The MSBSHSE typically conducts one main board exam (usually in February-March) and a supplementary exam (generally in July-August) for students who need a second chance.
This year, the Maha SSC exam will be held from February 20 to March 18, 2026, while the Maharashtra HSC exam will be conducted from February 10 to March 11, 2026. The supplementary exam dates will be announced after the declaration of the Maharashtra board result 2026.
This supplementary exam is different from the ‘two-exam system’, where both attempts may become a part of the regular schedule and are open to all students.
Currently, the board has not made any official announcement regarding the introduction of the Maharashtra board two-exam system.
While there is growing national momentum toward a two-exam system, students should note that:
There is no confirmation or indication from MSBSHSE about adopting this model for SSC or HSC 2026 board exams.
If any changes are to be implemented, the board is expected to release an official notification well in advance.
Students preparing for 2026 exams should follow the current one-exam structure unless otherwise stated by the board.

If MSBSHSE adopts a two-exam system, then both exams might be scheduled at different points in the academic year (e.g., Term 1 and Term 2).
Students may get a chance to improve their scores by appearing in both.
The final result might be the best score out of two attempts.
Stick to the existing board exam structure unless an official change is announced.
Use this time to build a strong foundation in all subjects.

Hello,
Yes, you can change your subject as an HSC repeater in Maharashtra Board. But it depends on the subject you want to change. If it is a compulsory subject, you cannot change it.
For optional or elective subjects, you can apply for a change through your junior college at the time of filling the exam form. It is better to confirm with your college and board office before applying.
Hope it helps !
