The Board of Intermediate Education, Andhra Pradesh (BIEAP) has introduced some changes to the subject combinations and marking pattern, aiming to offer students more flexibility with their career aspirations. It is proposed to make the second language an elective subject and introduce an additional subject to provide students with a wider range of academic options. Also, a realignment of the subject-wise total marks and the weightage between theory AP inter examinations and internal/practical assessments is proposed, to align the marking scheme with the CBSE pattern.

AP Intermediate New Subject Combinations

The Andhra Pradesh Board of Intermediate Education (BIEAP) is proposing significant changes to the subject combinations offered for AP intermediate-year courses, aiming to provide students with greater flexibility and cater to their diverse academic aspirations. The below information is based on the proposed changes and may not be final. It's crucial to refer to the official BIEAP website (bie.ap.gov.in). Check the changes below:

Background wave

AP Intermediate Combination Changes:

  • Second Language as Elective: The second language subject will become an elective, allowing students to choose from a wider range of subjects based on their interests and career goals.

  • Additional Subject for Increased Options: An additional subject will be introduced, further expanding the pool of subjects students can select. A list of 25 options will be uploaded on the BIEAP portal (bie.ap.gov.in) for students to reference.

  • English as a Compulsory Subject: English will remain a compulsory subject for all students, ensuring a strong foundation in language skills.

  • Streamlined Core Subjects: A merger of papers is proposed for Mathematics (combining Math A and Math B) and Biology (combining Botany and Zoology) into single subjects. This will streamline the AP inter curriculum and potentially reduce the workload for students.

  • Revised Science and Humanities Combinations: New combinations for Science and Humanities streams will be introduced.

    • Science: The proposed combinations include MPC (Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry) and BiPC (Biology, Physics, and Chemistry).

    • Humanities: A wider range of combinations is expected, potentially including CEC (Commerce, Economics, and Civics), HEC (History, Economics, and Civics), and MEC (Mathematics, Economics, and Computer Science) along with 23 additional combinations.

  • Optional Sixth Subject: Students will have the option to choose a sixth subject, again selecting from the list of 25 available options on the BIEAP portal. This additional subject can be either a language or a core subject, providing further flexibility for personalization.

  • Failed in one Subject: If a student opts for the sixth subject and fails in any of the first five core subjects (English, Elective, and the three streamlined core subjects), the failing subject can be replaced by the sixth subject. However, this replacement is only valid if English remains one of the main five subjects after the switch

Why Need for Reform of Combination of AP Inter Subjects?

The current BIE first year curriculum offers two languages and four core subjects for the Science stream, resulting in a total of six subjects. In contrast, the Humanities stream offers three core subjects, totaling five subjects. This current structure is not being accepted by some universities, as they mandate a single language and four core subjects, resulting in a total of five subjects.

Furthermore, there is a growing demand for the introduction of the MBiPC (Mathematics, Biology, Physics, and Chemistry) course. Additionally, Humanities students are expressing a desire for a greater variety of subject combinations.

Changes in AP Inter Exam Marking Pattern

The proposed reforms include realigning the subject-wise total marks and the weightage between theory AP inter examinations and internal/practical assessments, aligning them with the CBSE pattern. Check below the AP inter marking schene

  • Languages and Humanities:

    • Theory: 80 marks

    • Internal Assessments (Project Work/Research Activity): 20 marks

  • Total Marks: 500 marks across all subjects.

  • Humanities Group: 400 marks for theory and 100 marks for internal assessments.

  • MPC Group (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry): 380 marks for theory and 120 marks for internal/practical assessments.

  • BiPC Group (Biology, Physics, Chemistry): 370 marks for theory and 130 marks for internal/practical assessments.

  • The proposed changes include the introduction of 1-mark questions in various formats, such as multiple-choice questions, fill-in-the-blanks, and one-word answers, within the Board examination. Additionally, the weightage assigned to Essay-type questions will be reduced from 8 marks to 5 or 6 marks.

Hello,

To determine your eligibility under Stream 1, you would need to know your actual JEE Main score (not percentile), as the combined score calculation requires it. Without this, it's challenging to compute your exact SASTRA Rank for Stream 1.

For Stream 2, with a 98.1% in your Class 12 exams, your normalized score would depend on the highest score in your board. If we assume the highest is 1000, your normalized score remains 98.1%. Admission under Stream 2 is based on the merit list derived from these normalized scores.

Hello Aspirant,

Hope you are doing well. JEE mains score cannot be used to seek admission at Anna University Chennai. Admissions to Bachelor of Engineering course is carried out through a counseling procedure that the college conducts. The basic eligibility for the course is that students are required to graduate 10+2 from a recognized board / university with a minimum of 55% marks and not less than 50% marks in each physics, chemistry and mathematics. Students are also required to score a considerable score in TNEA. the fees lies between Rs. 15,000 to Rs.33,000 depending on the courses.

Thank you.

Dear aspirant,

It is hard to predict if you'll get CSE or not as it heavily depends on the students applying and what their preferences are. Looking at the previous year trends we can say that you'll need 975+ to get CSE  but you have a really good percentile in JEE which accounts for 25 percent, so all I can say is that you have a really good chance of getting into SASTRA but CSE might be slightly difficult. If you are truly passionate about CSE, it is better to keep other options open.
