NCERT Notes for Class 10 Maths Chapter 11; Topic 1

Construction of line segment

  • A point is dividing a given line segment by the given ratio M: N

  • By dividing a line segment of length X cm by the ratio M: N.

NCERT Notes for Class 10 Maths Chapter 11; Topic 2

Steps

  • The first step is to draw the line segment with the length X cm which is named AB.

  • At the end of B construct an acute angle BAX.

  • Then locate the five points (m+n) points. That is AA1=A1A2=A2A3=A3A4=A4A5

  • Join BA5 (A(m+n)=A5).

  • Passing through point A3, draw a line parallel to the BA5 at A3 intersecting AB at point C. Then the ratio AC:CB=3:2.

Constructing Similar Triangle

Construct a triangle in which the sides of it are 3/4 times the corresponding sides of the triangle which is given.

  • As the first step draw a ray BX and make an acute angle with the side BC.

  • Then mark 4 consecutive distances in the BX.

  • Join B4C.

  • A line passing through the C’ and parallel to B4C and to intersect BC is drawn.

  • A line passing through C’ and parallel to AC to intersect AB at A’ is drawn.

Similar triangle

Two cases to be considered while constructing a similar triangle.

  1. The triangle to be constructed must be smaller than the one triangle which is provided. Also, the scale factor must be less than one.

  2. And the scale factor should be greater than one if the triangle to be constructed is larger than the given triangle.

Tangents to circle

A circle is a set of points and to all those points there is a tangent passing through it.

NCERT Notes for Class 10 Maths Chapter 11; Topic 5

Construction of Tangent When the Center of the Circle is Known

Steps

  • As the first step draw the circle by showing the center point.

  • Choose some extent P on the circle.

  • Joint with the center O that is OP.

  • Then construct the right angle and mark point T.

  • Extend it to T’ thus TPT’ is formed and is the tangent.

NCERT Notes for Class 10 Maths Chapter 11; Topic 6

Construction of a Tangent When the Center is Not Given

Steps

  • Draw a circle.

  • To the external point, P joins the center.

  • To intersect at Q draw a bisector.

  • Draw a circle by taking Q as the center and OQ=PQ and it will intersect at T and T’.

  • PT and PT’ joined to get the tangent.
