India's school system is one of the largest in the world, around 15 lakh schools exist in India. It has more than 95 lakh teachers and around 26.52 crore of students studying in pre-primary school to the higher secondary.
Geographically, Uttar Pradesh is a large state, hence demographically too it has a higher population. There is no doubt then that it is home to the highest number of schools – around 17.3 per cent. Madhya Pradesh comes second with around 8.4 per cent. Followed by Maharashtra, Rajasthan and West Bengal having the highest number of schools.
Careers360 pulled up the most recent data available for the academic year 2020-21 from the official website of Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) covering all schools including, government, private, aided, semin-aided schools. Around 89 per cent of schools across the nation have basic electricity facilities. Of these, 41,060 in numbers function without any electric supply.

Tamil Nadu and Goa are the only states with 100 per cent electricity in their schools. The same can be said about schools in four Union Territories which are: Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Delhi, Lakshadweep and Puducherry. Gujarat, Punjab, Kerala and Karnataka have more than 99 percent of such school facilities.
