    UDISE+ Analysis And Report On Facilities In Schools Based in Southern States Of India

    Out of the 14,89,115 total Indian schools, around 17 per cent schools are in south India which includes the states like Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Telangana and union territories (UT) like Lakshadweep, Puducherry.

    In continuation of our series on analysis of UDISE + report schools across India. Careers360 recently published an analysis of schools in north India. Here, we delve into basic facilities such as toilets, library, drinking water and computer facilities offered at schools of southern states of India.

    The data was collected through the official website of Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) for 2021-22. The analysis of this report will help parents and students to learn about the actual condition of basic facilities which are offered at the schools of south India.

    Toilet Facilities: Over 98 per cent schools in south India have lavatories. Out of them, more than 97 per cent schools have these facilities in proper working condition.

    Library: Over 96 per cent of schools have either a library, a book bank or at least a reading corner.

    Drinking water: Out of the 2,57,296 schools in south India, more than 99 per cent have drinking water facilities. But out of the schools with drinking water facilities, about 97 per cent of them are in working condition.

    Computer Labs: South Indian schools have done better in imparting digital education with 60 per cent schools having a computer lab. And 96.6 per cent of these school’s computer labs are in functional condition.

    Toilet Facility

    Lakshadweep, Puducherry and Tamil Nadu’s schools performed well, with 100 per cent schools having toilets in proper condition.

    The performance of schools in Telangana lowered the overall average percentage of schools with toilets in south India. [See Table below]

    Library

    Education is a serious topic for states in the south of our country. They have a high percentage of literacy ratio as compared to other states of India. Taking this to a level up is the fact that more than 96 per cent of their schools have library facilities. Again Telangana brings the overall average down.

    Drinking Water

    Almost all of the southern states' schools have drinking water facilities. Except schools of Telangana, it had the lowest percentage of schools along with even lower percentage of non-functional drinking water facilities.

    Computer Labs

    Schools in the southern part of India had more than 60 per cent of schools with computer labs, out of which more than 96 per cent school's labs are in working condition. Lakshadweep is one of the top performing states/UT among all other states/UT of India.

    Among all the facilities mentioned above, computer lab facilities are the least available in schools of most states.
