The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) conducts Senior Secondary examination (Class 12th) twice a year, in April and October. Like other educational boards, NIOS has also established NIOS Class 12 pass criteria and subject offerings. The NIOS Board is a recognised alternative to regular schooling; however, students must meet the same passing mark requirements as those in regular schools to qualify. Students must meet minimum pass mark criteria, which is 33% marks in each subject, to qualify for the NIOS Class 12 examination 2026.

The minimum passing marks for NIOS Class 12 exams or NIOS Senior Secondary Course are the following:
Failing to secure the required marks in any subject will result in a ‘Not Passed’ status for that subject. However, NIOS provides multiple chances to reappear in exams and improve performance. Students must make sure to focus on both theory and practical components (if applicable) to meet the criteria and successfully obtain their NIOS Class 12 pass certificate and marksheet.
