On January 24, 2025, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) released a notification on the implementation of CBSE APAAR ID as the primary identifier for students of CBSE-affiliated schools. It is a part of the government’s Digital India Initiative under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The CBSE APAAR ID is a lifelong, unique ID created for every student. It ensures that all the important academic documents of students stay safe on one digital platform. Students can check out the steps to create the CBSE APAAR ID below in this article.

The Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR ID) is a unique 12-digit number identifier that is designed to combine students’ academic and extracurricular records in a single digital platform. It allows students to access their academic records such as exam results, learning outcomes, achievements, certificates of participation in activities such as olympiads, sports and skill training, etc.
Candidates studying in school will have to visit their respective schools to create the APAAR ID. It is the responsibility of the schools to obtain consent from parents/guardians of the students and then create the APAAR ID. Once the APAAR ID is created by the school, students will be able to download it through their DigiLocker account.
Verification: Parents/students must visit their school to verify demographic details.
Parental Consent: In the case of a minor student, parental consent is necessary.
Authentication: Authenticate identity through the school.
ID Creation: After the verification, the APAAR ID will be created and added to DigiLocker for secure online access.
The students can download the APAAR ID via DigiLocker. Below, we have provided simple steps to download the CBSE APAAR ID via DigiLocker for students’ reference.
Download the DigiLocker app from the Playstore.
Create an account by entering the candidate’s name, DOB, mobile number and email ID and submit.
An OTP will be sent to the same mobile number. Enter it and submit.
On the next page, enter the Aadhaar number, verify by submitting OTP and submit.
Once the DigiLocker account is created, go to “Issued” documents.
The APAAR ID will be shown on the screen. Click on it to download the CBSE APAAR ID.
The APAAR ID focuses on “One Nation, One Student ID”. The CBSE APAAR ID allow students to digitally manage and access their academic credits including marksheet, gradesheet, degree, diplomas, certificate and co-curricular accomplishments. As per CBSE board guidelines for internal assessment for class 10th you will have to give a 80 marks board exam and 20 marks internal assessment. The internal assessment will be at the end of your year.
For knowing the definite structure of the internal assessment you will have to ask your teachers or your seniors in the school as CBSE has provided flexibility in choosing the methods of internal assessment to schools.
