The chapter-wise distribution of questions asked in the CBSE Class 10 Science board examinations of the years 2025, 2024, and 2023 is given in the following table. This will help you determine which chapters are often asked for and require more attention during your CBSE 10th exam preparation.
Chapter Name | Number of Questions (Year Wise) | No of Questions From 2025-23
2025 | 2024 | 2023 | ||
Acids, Bases and Salts | 6 | 4 | 4 | 14 |
Carbon and Its Compounds | 5 | 8 | 8 | 21 |
Chemical Reactions and Equations | 4 | 7 | 7 | 18 |
Control and Coordination | 4 | 4 | 2 | 10 |
Electricity | 8 | 2 | 3 | 13 |
Heredity | 4 | 2 | 7 | 13 |
How do Organisms Reproduce? | 6 | 5 | 3 | 10 |
Life Processes | 8 | 11 | 6 | 25 |
Light – Reflection and Refraction | 7 | 2 | 5 | 14 |
Magnetic Effects of Electric Current | 4 | 5 | 5 | 14 |
Metals and Non-Metals | 8 | 3 | 8 | 19 |
Our Environment | 4 | 4 | 4 | 12 |
The Human Eye and the Colourful World | 4 | 5 | 2 | 11 |
With all the trends in the last 3 years (2025-2023), Life Processes will hold paramount importance as the chapter carrying the maximum number of questions asked for the CBSE Class 10 Science examination. Other chapters also have had a relatively high weightage and deserve top priority, for example: Carbon and Its Compounds, Metals and Non-Metals, and Chemical Reactions and Equations. Chapters with moderate weightage, such as Electricity, Light, Heredity, and Magnetic Effects of Electric Current, may also fetch 1-2 questions each. Conversely, Control and Coordination, Our Environment, and The Human Eye and the Colourful World normally attract lesser weightage and can be revised later. Focusing on the Top 5 chapters can cover more than 50% of the paper and increase your chances of scoring high marks in the CBSE class 10 Science exam 2025-26.
Also Check-
Not only chapters, but students should also focus on the key concepts that are repeatedly asked to score well in Science. Thus, considering the previous years' papers, here are the top 10 most repeated concepts in the CBSE Class 10 Science exam.
Top 10 Concepts of CBSE Class 10 Science
Concept Name | No. of Questions Asked (from 2025-23) |
Rules for the Inheritance of Traits - Mendel’s Contributions | 8 |
Respiration | 8 |
Oxidation and Reduction | 7 |
Food Chains and Webs | 6 |
Defects of vision and their corrections | 6 |
Chemical from Common Salt | 6 |
Refraction of light | 5 |
Nutrition in Human Beings | 5 |
How do Acids and Bases React with Metals? | 5 |
Decomposition Reaction |
The top two most-preferred Class 10 Science concepts asked from 2023 till 2025 were Rules for the Inheritance of Traits (Mendel's Contributions) and Respiration, having equal shares of 13.1% in the total questions asked. Oxidation and Reduction were closely placed at 11.5%, marking their importance in Chemistry sections. Other important concepts like Food Chains, Defects of Vision, and Chemicals from Common Salt had 9.8% each. These are therefore very high-scoring and frequently asked. Others, such as Refraction of Light, Nutrition in Human Beings, Decomposition Reactions, and Acid-Base Reactions with Metals, were consistently appearing as well. Focusing on these top 10 concepts for the 2025-26 CBSE Science board exam may make a huge difference to your overall score.
Knowing which chapters carry more weight allows one to effectively plan time for study. This avoids spending too much time on topics that are less important. This way, effort yields better returns in less time.
Important chapters appear again and again in board exams. By focusing on these, you will find that many questions will be correctly answered without the need to study in detail all the concepts. Thereby, this will increase the chances of scoring above 90.
On being strong in the most asked topics, the student feels most ready to face the exam. Hence, this reduces the tension not only during the exam but also during the revision period. Confidence in key chapters frequently helps in solving tricky or reverse questions, too.
A list of high-weightage topics will enable focused and quick revision. Instead of going through the entire book, spend much of it on topics of true importance. This is extremely helpful in the last few days before the exam.
Repeated concepts are always there every year. With the study of past papers, you will know which chapters are likely to come up and prepare in a better way. Hence, saving time with more accuracy.
Competency | Weightage |
Demonstrate Knowledge and Understanding | 50% |
Application of Knowledge/Concepts | 30% |
