DBSE stands for Delhi Board of School Education. It is a relatively new education board established by the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) in 2021.

At present, there are 56 educational institutions in Delhi known as DBRA-SoSE (Dr. B.R. Ambedkar School of Specialized Excellence), previously referred to as Rajkiya Pratibha Vikas Vidyalaya, along with other high-achieving schools affiliated with the DBSE.

These institutions offer specialised education across various disciplines. Specifically, there are 21 schools dedicated to STEM, 17 schools focused on Humanities, 5 schools for "Performing & Visual Arts," 12 schools emphasising "High-End 21st Century Skills," and 1 institution for Armed Forces training, known as the Armed Forces Preparatory School.

DBSE Syllabus

The DBSE syllabus is a significant departure from traditional education models. It's designed to foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity while providing a strong foundation in core subjects. Given the focus on specialised schools, DBSE offers a wide range of unique subjects beyond the traditional ones. These include:

  • STEM: Robotics, coding, data science, artificial intelligence

  • Humanities: Philosophy, psychology, sociology, economics

  • Performing & Visual Arts: Music, dance, theater, visual arts, design

  • High-End 21st Century Skills: Entrepreneurship, leadership, digital media, global citizenship

DBSE vs. CBSE: Key Differences

The Delhi Board of School Education (DBSE) is relatively new compared to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). While both aim to provide quality education, they have distinct approaches and focus areas.

  • DBSE: Emphasises specialised schools offering STEM, Humanities, Performing & Visual Arts, and High-End 21st Century Skills. The curriculum is designed to be interdisciplinary, focusing on skill development and practical application. It emphasises continuous and comprehensive evaluation (CCE), with a reduced focus on traditional exams. Practical and project-based assessments are prioritised.

  • CBSE: Offers a broader range of subjects and streams (Science, Commerce, Arts). The curriculum is more traditional, with a focus on theoretical knowledge and preparation for competitive exams
