CBSE Class 10 to Hold 2 Board Exams from 2026: Know How Final Result Will Be Compiled ?

Starting from 2026, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) introduced a system of two board examinations annually for Class 10 students. For CBSE 10th, the Phase 1 exam was conducted from February 17 to March 11, 2026, and the Phase 2 exam will be conducted from May 15 to June 1, 2026. Under this new policy, a student's final CBSE 10th results will be compiled by taking the best score achieved in each subject across both examination attempts.

How will the CBSE compile the two boards' results?

The board conducts both exams, and whichever session yields higher marks in a subject will have those marks added to the final marksheet. In the final CBSE mark sheet, the marks obtained in the session where they were higher will be included.

    • Two Sessions: Students have the option to appear for two exam sessions within the same academic year (e.g., February and May)

    • Optional Second Attempt: The first session is generally compulsory, while the second is optional and provides an opportunity for students to improve their scores

    • "Best of Two" Rule: The final CBSE marksheet and passing certificate will reflect the better of the two scores achieved by the student in each subject. This means if a student performs better in a subject in the second attempt, that higher score will be used for the final compilation.

    • Practical/Internal Assessments: These assessments are conducted only once per academic year, and their scores are integrated into the final result compilation.

    • Final Marksheet: The final passing certificate and marksheet are issued after the second examination, adding the best scores from both attempts and the internal assessment marks.

Can the results of different boards be combined?

No, students cannot combine results across different boards like CBSE, NIOS or CISCE. Each board operates independently, with its own exams, evaluation methods, and certificates.

    • Within one board (like CBSE): Students can take two exam sessions and use the best marks per subject in the final result.

    • Between different boards (CBSE vs NIOS): Students cannot combine marks; each board’s results remain separate and independent.
