Transferring a student from one Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) to another, whether within the same city or to a different location, is generally possible and governed by the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) Admission Guidelines and Transfer Policy. This is one of the most common reasons for inter-KV transfers. If a parent, especially a central government employee, is transferred to a different city or location, their child is usually eligible for a transfer.
A Transfer Certificate (T.C.) is issued upon the parent's request through the prescribed withdrawal form, which must include complete details of the child and the reason for the transfer. The T.C. is generally issued within 3 to 7 working days from the date of submission of the withdrawal form. If there is a delay of more than 7 working days, the matter can be escalated to the Deputy Commissioner of the respective region.
Local transfers between Kendriya Vidyalayas within the same city or station are allowed under specific circumstances, subject to the availability of seats in the destination school. Parents must submit a written request justifying the reason for transfer (such as change in residence, distance issues, or sibling studying in another KV).
The transfer is processed only after verification and approval by the Principal of both KVs, as well as by KVS transfer guidelines. A Transfer Certificate (T.C.) will be issued upon submission of the prescribed withdrawal form and necessary documents.
Transfers are generally allowed during the academic session only in genuine cases and must follow the prescribed KVS norms.
S. No. | Activity | Deadline |

Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) often waive fees for certain students and offer an accommodating transfer policy, particularly beneficial for the children of army and government employees who make up a significant portion of their student body. This ease of transfer ensures that students can continue their education easily, even when their parents' duties require relocation.
To initiate a KV-to-KV transfer, check a step-by-step guide:
First, write an application to the Principal of the current Kendriya Vidyalaya. Clearly state the intention to transfer and provide the reason for the transfer. Be sure to include essential details, such as the child's name, class, and roll number.
Submit this KV application form to the Principal's office. If the application meets KVS guidelines and is found to be in order during verification, students will receive a transfer form to fill out. Once completed, they will get a transfer receipt, which enables them to collect the Transfer Certificate (TC) for their child.
Take the TC and its receipt to the Kendriya Vidyalaya where the student wishes to transfer their child. Submit these documents along with a new application for KV admission. Once the Principal of the new school grants a No Objection Certificate (NOC), the child's admission process will be finalised.
