The Ravi Pillai Academic Excellence Scholarship is jointly run by NORKA Roots (Kerala Govt’s Non-Resident Keralites Affairs department) and the Ravi Pillai Foundation. It aims to support meritorious students from Kerala with financial assistance, especially those who are economically weaker, and to encourage academic excellence. The Ravi Pillai application window closed on September 30, 2025. The Ravi Pillai scholarship applications are submitted through the official portal: rpscholarship.norkaroots.kerala.gov.in. Ravi Pillai scholarship amounts are transferred via DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) to the student’s bank account.

Income Limit: The annual family income must be Rs 2.5 lakh or below
Location of Study: Study in a recognized institution in India. Colleges/institutions should be recognized by UGC / respective authorities within India, including those pursuing courses outside Kerala via all-India competitive exams
One-Time Award: A student can receive this scholarship only once during their entire academic career
Exclusion: Students who have already received a scholarship of Rs 50,000 or more from any other source are generally not eligible
Family Limit: Maximum of two children per family can benefit
Students from Kerala who have demonstrated strong academic performance. It covers three levels:
Higher Secondary – “Plus One” (Class 11) students
Undergraduate students: First or second year UG students
Postgraduate (2nd year regular PG) students
To apply for the Ravi Pillai scholarship, students must follow a completely online procedure. They have to first apply through the official website and create their profile, which will be confirmed via an OTP (One-Time Password) sent to a registered mobile number.

Register by providing valid details (name, date of birth, Aadhaar, email, mobile number).
Log in with the credentials and open the application form.
Enter the academic information, marks obtained, institution details, etc.
Upload scanned copies of required documents (mark sheets, income certificate, ID proof, Pravasi ID if applicable).
Carefully verify all the information before submission.
Submit the application and download or save the acknowledgment slip for future reference.
There is no requirement to submit any physical copies of the application or supporting documents. However, students must ensure all digital copies of the required documents are clearly scanned before the final submission.

The minimum academic requirements for the Ravi Pillai Academic Excellence Scholarship are strictly based on the marks obtained in the qualifying examination for each level:
Higher Secondary (Plus One/Class 11): Students must have achieved an A+ in all subjects in the SSLC (State Syllabus) examination OR scored more than 90% marks in the CBSE/ICSE Class 10 examination.
Undergraduate (Degree): Students must have a minimum of 85% marks in their qualifying Class 12 (State, CBSE, or ISC) examination.
Post-Graduate (PG): Students must secure a minimum of 80% marks in the Science stream OR 75% marks in the Arts, Commerce, Law, Management, Medical, and Technical streams in their final degree examination.

There are reservations and special preferences provided to students in the Ravi Pillai Scholarship. A portion of scholarships is reserved for NRK (Non-Resident Keralites) children, with a valid Pravasi ID. Check more details below
NRK Quota: 20% of seats are reserved for the children of Non-Resident Keralites (NRK) parents (Pravasi ID card is mandatory)
Differently-Abled Quota: 5% of seats are reserved for differently-abled students
Grace Marks: Special preference (grace marks) is given to orphans, students with chronically ill/bedridden parents, and state-level achievers in sports or arts
