Once you’re done with 10+2, the next step includes obtaining an undergraduate degree in Management. A UG degree in Business Management programme provides a fundamental education in business and management principles. Programmes typically allow students to specialise in one of the multiple concentration areas including international business, finance, computer information systems, accounting etc. Such management programmes can offer practical management training that can prepare students to successfully work within a large or small organisation.

The IIM Indore Integrated Aptitude Test is the entrance test for IIM Indore’s 5-year Integrated Management Program. The exam is objective type and follows a multiple-choice question format. The duration of the exam is two hours. There are 2 sections namely Quantitative Ability and Verbal Ability. The total number of questions would be 100. Each correct question will have 4 marks and there is 1 mark of negative marking for each wrong answer. The total mark is 400. The difficulty level will be equal to the Secondary level. It is usually conducted in May every year.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts the Common University Entrance Test for admissions to undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at Delhi University’s affiliated institutes.CUET is conducted around the months of July and August every year in online mode. The results are usually announced 15-20 days after the exam date. Many central universities provide admissions to their UG courses through the scores of CUET. SET BBA is conducted for admissions to undergraduate management programmes at various Symbiosis-affiliated institutions. The online SET application process starts in January and ends in mid-April. The format of the SET BBA question paper is objective and is conducted online. Each question presents four options as answers. There will be no negative marking for the incorrect answers. It is mandatory to complete all the sections to obtain the SET BBA score.
Although an undergraduate degree in management provides the initial management education which can also fetch a job, it is advisable to study management further or go for a postgraduate degree in management i.e. an MBA. An MBA or a PGDM programme will help build analytical skills and a solid foundation in the principles of management. An MBA is a useful degree to move up the corporate ladder and demand a better pay package. Students passing out from top B-schools like Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad, Bombay, Calcutta, and Lucknow have been offered a median salary ranging from Rs.20-22 Lakh per annum for the year 2017 (source - IPRS and NIRF ranking data). For IIM Indore, Shillong and Kozhikode, the average salary was 17-18 LPA. New IIMs - IIM Ranchi, Rohtak, Nagpur, Vizag, and Amritsar have been offered an average salary of Rs.10-16 LPA (source: placement reports)
Almost all B-schools in India conduct an entrance exam for admission to its MBA programme. The programme trains students in both theoretical and practical aspects. Theoretical aspects include subjects such as economics, organisational behaviour, marketing, accounting, finance, strategy, operations management, international business, information technology management, supply chain management, project management, branding and more. Practical aspects are taught through industrial training. The duration of an MBA programme is usually 2 years but if a candidate has two or more years of corporate work experience, he/she can pursue an Executive MBA which is one-year duration. CAT is the national level management entrance exam conducted by the Indian Institute of Management for admission to 20 IIMs and more than 100 B-schools across India. The online exam is usually conducted in the month of November every year. The 3-hour exam comprises MCQs (Multiple Choice questions) and Non-MCQs. The total score of the exam is 100 and it follows negative marking for MCQs only.
GMAT or the Graduate Management Admission Test is the international test conducted by the Graduate Management Admission Council for admission in B-schools across India and abroad. It is conducted throughout the year and one can book an appointment at a convenient test centre. The result is also available on the exam day itself.
