NCERT Class 8 Social Science syllabus is systematically designed. It follows the CBSE pattern. The syllabus is designed to help students not just in their academics but also in developing a deeper understanding of society. The Social Science class 8 curriculum is divided into three parts: Geography, political science and history. Every part is designed in a systematic way, which helps students to develop awareness and critical thinking about the issues happening every day around us. Social science helps students understand society, its polity, history and geography.
The social science curriculum helps students to score good marks in board exams, scholarship exams, and entrance exams. Social science helps students develop awareness of the world. With the help of History, students get to know about their past, Geography helps students to know about resources and their development, and Civics helps students to generate political awareness. Students should make a proper schedule to complete their NCERT syllabus on time to avoid the last-minute rush.
As per the latest CBSE curricular update, the new NCERT Social Science syllabus and textbooks for Class 8 are scheduled to be released by June 20, 2025. The NCERT Class 8 Social Science book will be available in both Hindi and English medium, and the textbooks will be accessible in PDF format on NCERT’s official website, i.e. http://ncert.nic.in.

Students can follow the guidelines given below to download the NCERT Class 8 Social Science syllabus :
Step 1: Go to the official NCERT website at http://ncert.nic.in.
Step 2: On the home page, in the 'Search' option and type 'Syllabus' and click on it. This will take you to the syllabus page.
Step 3: Click on the 'Syllabus for Classes on the Elementary Level' option. The syllabus PDF will open.
Step 4: Choose the "Required Subject Class VI to VIII Syllabus" in the PDF.
Step 5: The NCERT Class 8 Social Science syllabus PDF will be displayed on your screen. Download and save it for future use.
Note*: The Class 8 Social Science latest syllabus is not updated on the NCERT official website.

The syllabus generally covers all the important topics and concepts related to Indian society, world history, Indian history, and democratic politics. The syllabus has been designed to provide students with a strong foundation in social science subjects.
Under Civics the important themes includes Indian Constitution, secularism, Parliament, and the judiciary. Issues of marginalisation, social justice, and the role of the government in protecting rights and promoting equality is also covered.
The social science syllabus is divided into three parts- Resources and Development, Social and Political Life, and Our Past III. The various chapters under these sections focus and different aspects of Geography, Civics and History.
Key topics include natural and human resources, and its impact on civilisation. It also explores agriculture and different types of industries.
Under History (Our Past III), there are 8 chapters. These cover the history of modern India, including the colonial period, freedom struggle, and the making of independent India.
