What After Selection in NMMS?

Once the NMMS scholarship result is declared, students have to follow the procedure to receive the scholarship amount and further move ahead to complete the scholarship process. Students can avail of only one scholarship under any Central Government Scholarship scheme. Check out the following points to learn more.

  • Students who are awarded will be required to open a joint bank account with their parents to receive the NMMS scholarship amount.

  • The bank account should be preferable in SBI or any public sector bank or scheduled bank where there is a core banking facility.

  • Eligible students should apply on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) which will be verified by the State Governments and UT administrations.

  • Finally, it will be sent to the ministry for sanction of funds.

  • The final list of verified students at all levels on the NSP platform will be considered for the sanction of the scholarship amount. Students can also track their NSP scholarship payment status online.

  • No funds will be transferred to those who discontinue or have not been able to renew their NSP portal application within the specified period.

  • The funds will be sanctioned from the Annual Budget Provision.

  • Verified students will receive a scholarship amount of INR 12,000/- (i.e., INR 1000 per month) yearly.

  • The bank where the joint account is opened will send the monthly scholarship amount to students by electronic transfer.

  • The bank will transfer the NMMS scholarship amount through the Public Financial Management System (PFMS).

NMMS Scholarship Guidelines

Students applying for the NMMS scholarship must ensure that they fulfil the NMMS eligibility criteria set by the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education.

NMMS Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

  • The parental income of the students should not exceed INR 3.50 LPA.

  • Students should get a clear promotion in class 8 to get the NMMS scholarship in class 9.

  • For students who want to get a scholarship in class X student, they must get a clear promotion in class 9 and must score at least 60% marks while promoting to class 11. SC/ST candidates will get a relaxation of 5% in the next higher classes when promoted from class 9 to 10.

  • Candidates are also required to get a clear promotion in class 11 to get a scholarship while promoted to class 12.

  • A total of 1,00,000 scholarships are allotted and further it is distributed as per state-wise quota. Rs 12000 per year per student will be awarded for four years.

  • The department will evaluate the scheme every year.

  • Every state/UT will have a fixed quota of scholarships concerning the age group of Classes VII and VIII.

  • The NMMS scholarship scheme will provide reservations to different categories of students looking to seek higher education but are economically poor.

  • Students studying in Kendriya Vidyalayas and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas are not eligible to apply for the NMMS scholarship scheme.

  • Students studying in residential schools run by the state/central government where facilities like education, boarding, and lodging are provided or students studying in private schools are also not eligible for the NMMS scholarship.

  • Students applying for the NMMS scholarship must be regular students maintaining good conduct from a government, local-body schools, and government-aided.
